It is a good place * fjlles from other sections to -gate, to invest in, to live jed to grow up with. Along , same road we find a lot of ' jji in various Brunswick com f;Ws fully alive to opportuni . .jy:r section has. The Wood , j?,j Brunswick river bridge parity folks and those around ijotte are especially strong at liers in and pushing their parties forward. Those ^ urd others in Brunswick py are going to bo heard c slot:!: the lines of deveiop it J jo?rs around Leland. Na 6 Woodburn and the Bruns I river bridge are very an ts set local bus sen-ice be tween those points and Wilming ton. They point out that with operations at the ship lay-in-bas in, a great (leal of transportation of labor, etc., will be necessary. The fertilizer and other indus tries at Navassa also require the moving of a great deal of labor that cannot very well use the; existing methods of transporta- ' tion. A short line between the above mentioned points should be very helpful and should pay. Recently it was mentioned here that the repaying work on the Hickman-Thomasboro project had gone to pieces within two months after the work was com pleted. We sort of wondered how it happened. O. P. Bellamy, form er chairman of the board of coun ty commissioners, explained the matter this week. Mr. Bellamy said that rains during the time the paving was being laid re sulted in too soft a mixture. Horses and mules, as well as vehicles, easily cut through the soft mixture with their hoves and tires. Mr. Bellamy, admitt- j ing that the road is worse than before, says it will have to be , repaved. I The teacherages at Waccamawi and Shallotte have now been in i use two years. They were built through the use of bonds which the school officials at each place have to pay off. Last year both of the schools met their obliga- ; tions easily and this year they have already done the same. The yearly payments are something over $2,000.00. obtained through rent of rooms and board to teach- 1 [OUR MONEY STAYS HOME ! ! Denning, of the Waccamaw school, said this week that the teacherages had been a boon to the teachers and to the schools. Without them some of the teachers would have to be scattered all about. It is understood that five Brunswick county independent basketball teams will participate in the tournament to be held at Acme-Uqlco, beginning February 24th. These teams are the Wac camaw and Leland boys, Shallotto girls and Bolivia boys and girls. All are good teams and will give Brunswick county a fine repre sentation. The tournament is a five-county affair. Miss Lois Formyduvai; of Shal lotte, will be admitted to any show at the Shallotte Theatre this week upon presentation of a copy of this week's issue of The Pilot at the ticket office. At Southport Miss Eloise St. George will be admitted to the Amuzu Theatre under like conditions. Just as we expected, when we wrote somethingi last week about former postmaster L. T. Yaskell and fishing, we heard from him right away. He is now up in New Jersey and is probably freezing to death after spending many years in the temperate climate of Brunswick county. His grievance this week was that we were filling the paper with fish ing stories to make him home sick and that we did not carry anything of that sort during the last few years he was down here. During those years we had a war on and neither we nor any body else had any time for fish ing. He moved away from Bruns wick just when we were begin ning to find out how many fish we really had and how to catch them. Dawson Jones, of Leland. thinks that the county commis sioners should go before the Army Engineers in Wilmington and request that the remainder of the soil removed from the lay in-basin on the Brunswick river be diverted to points where it would fill in and convert use less marsh land into something of value. The interest of the commissioners in the matter would be the increased property value from such work. It is not a bad idea. There are areas be longing to the State Highway Commission and other areas along the causeway of the highway of the highway that would be come valuable if they were fill ed in. It is understood that the dredge still has about two months of digging before the basin is completed. In that time a whole lot of land could be built up if the dumpage was applied at the right places. SUPPLY NEWS " Arthur Hewett spent last' Sun day with his cousin. Hollis Hold en, at Georgetown, S. FOR SALE DESIRABLE REAL ESTATE AT CAUSE LANDING? IN Brunswick County ? 7 miles from ShaHotte, N. C., near Intra-Coastal Waterway, 1 have a group of 35-lots that are well shaded with liveoaks and liiskory trees and plenty of shrubbery which includes the noted Yeopon and Holly. These are large lots ranging from 65 to 75 ft. front by 160 to 215 ft. deep. Ideal place for building homes in a new devel opment. It is well elevated and known as Gause Landing Heights. All avenues and alleys recently opened. State highway runs through property and to landing. This with liveoaks overhanging the road with Spanish Moss, has been a scene where many a tourist has tarried to get a picture for a memory back home. From the landing to Hale Beach is approximately three-quarters of a mile. I have also adjoining the lots on opposite side of highway, a nice 8-room house equipped with electric lights and a water system and nice bath to be installed soon. Of the 20-acres more or less, this house is on a tract which has about 2-acres. I would sell all property or any one portion at a reasonable price. It would be ideal for a quick develop ment, as quite a bit is already going on here and pros pects are good, but I am too far advanced in years to undertake a new development myself. Therefore, I am offering this opportunity to someone who is interested in developing and selling or buying for individual homes. This section is becoming famous for deer, turkey and duck hunting; also sport fishing such as surf casting for red and black drum and sheephead, and inside fish ing for speckled trout, flounders and spots.
