Any other sunuvagun ?fir's to come butting in and ? to spoil our fishing by 0% to talk roads to the Commissioner is going to get himself cussed out by yours truly. I j Rainfall in Brunswick county | county has been rather checkered ( in its distribution this summer. The good farming sections of iWaccamaw, Shallotte and Lock ; woods Folly townships, as well as much of Town Creek town ship, have had almost too much ; rain. In spots some of the crops are reported as having been in jured. In contrast to the above places Southport has been rather dry. as the only heavy rain in some weeks fell at Southport ! Thursday. Without having to take any money along with her Miss Polly Bennett of Shallotte can get in ! side any show at the Shallotte Theatre this week, if she carries a copy of this weeks issue of The State Port Pilot. At the Amuzu .in Southport Miss Alice ' Ann Fields will get the nod under 1 the same conditions. I Sam Ragsm, State News Edi tor of the Raleigh News and Observer and a very good friend i of ours when we need an extra one, is to spend his vacation, be ginning Saturday or Sunday, at : one of our growing Brunswick ! county beaches. Naturally, this means that we will have to spend a good part of next week dig ging fishing worms. Sam is like us in one respect. He is pretty good for a country boy. On top of that he is a darn smart news paperman. With a lot of the very young folks, with whom we are proud to be rated as a friend, we know of no finer trio outside of Bruns wick county than Helen, Robin and John Babbington of Gastonia. I They were here last week with ] their mother, Mrs. R. B. Babbing ton. Their ages are about eight and nine, Helen and Robin are ? twin girls. John is the man of the family. All three are red headed and Helen and Robin are exactly alike. In fact, it may be said that John and his twin sis ters are all three pretty much alike. All of them read this paper J at their home in Gastonia and ' they knew us better than we knew them. Every year we have wanted to spend a full day with some of the (Brunswick county shore fisheri , es. Wanting was as tar as we ] got. Sometimes we have managed to drop in on one and stay for maybe an hour. On such visits it usually happened that there were no fish to be handled at the moment, and all we could see would be the fishermen waiting on the alert for a school of fish to show up. Some time this year we aim to take a holiday, a full | one, put on a pair of boots or at least an old pair of pants and spend a day at Little Beach. Shallotte Point or wherever we j can get to go with some assur I ance that the boys will be catch | ing fish. Through the courtsey of our (good friend. Wells M. Sawyer, a | painting that is one of the best ever made of any Southport scene will be on exhibition here at the State Port Pilot office for the remainder of this week. Everyone is invited to see it. The finishing touches were put to it this week, and it is worth seeing. It is a study in oak trees, a home in Southport and glimpses of the river in the background. Mr. Saw yer, now spending the summer at Southport, is widly known for his painting. This Southport paint ing will shortly be placed with his agents at a price of $580.00. There is a great deal more fine farming land right near Southport than the average tra veler by highway i mag lies. One illustration can be found a mile from town. Herbert Swain, farm ing on the land adjoining the for mer Dr. Fergus farm, has some of the best tobacco in the county.' He has completed his 3rd cropp ing and is on the 4th this week. He says he will get 1500 pounds of topgrade tobacco per acrea. j CHURCH NOTICE Southport Presbyterian Church, regular Sunday services, July 1 20: Sabbath school at 10 o'clock. WHAT CATHOLICS BELIEVE THE MASS The Mass is the Last Supper of Christ over again ? the most sacred ceremony of the Catholic religion. By the Mass the Bless ed Eucharist and Crucifixion are renewed. Everything in the Cath olic Church centers about the adorable sacrifice of the Mass. For its celebration the altar is erected, our churches built, our priests ordained. It is for the worthy reception of Christ's Body and Blood effect by the Mass that the Confession of Sins prepares faithful Catholics.
