Her only ornament was a string of pearls gift of the bridegroom. ANNOUNCE MARRIAGE Mrs. J. W. Beck, of the Winna bow community, announces the marriage of her daughter, Mar garie, to Johnnie Earl Cavanaugh, of Wilmington. The ceremony was performed at Richland, S. C., on September 30. Mr. Cavanaugh is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cavanaugh and Mrs. Cavanaugh is the daugh ter of the late J. W. and Mrs. Beck. The couple are making their home with the bride's mother for the present. Eighth Graders Organize Club The eighth grade of Southport school organized the Ocho Grande Club on Thursday afternoon. This club expects to enjoy a program twice a month. Officers were elected as fol lows: President, Frankie Cox; vice-president, Patricia Adams; secretary, Bernice Phelps; treas urer, Karen Swan; program com mittee, Mary Ann Loughlln, chair man; Latitia Hickman and Stuart Arrington. The class selected four grand mothers, Mrs. J. G. Swan, Mrs. O. E. Hickman, Mrs. C. H. Lup ton and Mrs. E. H. Arrington. From the study of the Eliza bethian period in history the boys and girls are doing some spe cialized work on the costumes of that age. Drawings have been made of the different dress pat terns and a number of the girls have made costumes which they modeled on dolls. Assurances that the game will go off as scheduled and will mark the first time a baseball contest is played under lights in Colum bus county were given this morn ing by R. L. Sholar, general chairman of Legion Field, who said lighting fixtures were now going up and transformers were now on their way from Atlanta, Ga. A possibility existed that in stallations may be completed by midweek. P. K. Avant and John Charles Maultsby left yesterday for Atlanta to bring the trans formers here. At press time today, It was learned that Charlie Ripple, fam ed local pitcher who hurled for Sacramento in the Pacific Coast League this season, will be on the mound for the local team. ; Ripple , was formerly with Phi ladelphia in the National League. It will be a star-studded ag gregation that Manager Earl Brinkley will send in against Buddy Lewis and his barnstorm ers. Back of the plate will be either Ted Russ or Buck Hardee. And on the mound, he will take his pick from such local greats as "Weenie" Brown, Snag Allen, Cole Jacobs, and H. D. Stanley. Brinkley may play first base himself, or he may send in Fred 1 Caswell.
