While the schools of Brunswick are not on bottom, they are a long way from what they could be with the proper financial aid. The greatest need is money for special departments, and for supplements to teachers' salaries. While the 15 cents per $100 valuation vot ed by the Leland folk will not furnish all they need, it will make possible many things which the other schools will not be able to enjoy. Of course, there are property owners of Brunswick County who do not like to pay any additional schools taxes, particularly the owners who do not send children to those schools (such as the pulp wood land owners who take out of Brunswick many times the amount they spend there) , J but I believe there are enough parents of school children, and, friends of school children in, Brunswick to vote such a levy j ' as Leland has in all districts. I also believe that you. through , your State Port Pilot, could do ' much to crystalize sentiment in | favor of such action. Unless, how (ever, someone takes up the cause jat an early date, it will be too | late to get your next legislative j candidates committed to this pro gram before the election next fall. Why not give all of the chil- 1 dren of Brunswick County an even j chance for an education ? Admit- i tedly, extra taxes are burden some, but few losses, if any, are as great as the loss of an educa- . | tion. Time will not wait for the children of today. Only the past week a ' Fayetteville family bought a j home at the beach and is moving ! J in with plans for year-round liv- ! ing. Some of the other families i now at the beach spent the past j winter or two there and are said ! to like it. During the past year and at j the present time the trend seems to have been to construct homes of a type that will permit this year-round residence by the own ers. A few of the home owners who have year-round types of homes and are unable to spend the winters there, owing to busi ness reasons, are renting out their homes to those who desire to use them in the winter. The Seashore Orill, kept open I most of last winter by Mr. and j Mrs. Baucom, will operate con- < tinuously throughout the winter.
