Osborne was telling us this week that he really enjoys read-' ing The Rovin' Reporter. He has i been a subscriber to the Pilot ' for several months, although he has no relatives or property in terests here. He undoubtedly' meant it when he said he liked to read this column. He made his son, F. G. Osborne, who also lives' in Charlctte, subscribed for the paper. The two men and their families spent part of the past week here at the E. L. Oliver home. E. L. Oliver, Southport and Charlotte man who has been in' Chicago, 111., and also in Louisina I and Florida for several weeks, j j will move back to Southport in < the near future, according to a report we have received. Mr. j Oliver, in addition to owning a j nice* home and other property i here, has a large and beautiful ! ! brick residence in Charlotte. He' | moved back there from South-' port last fall. Since then .having j J reftted his Charlotte house and | much on the go, it is understood I his present plans are to move back to Southport. The other day we were very much intrigued at the study, or den. that Dr. W. H. Davis, "Big Doc" to thousands of Baptist ministers who have studied under him -at the Southern Baptist [Theological Seminary, at Louis Iville, Kentucky, has at his cot I tage. Since 1919 Big Doc hasj I been one of the Deans there. I Now on leave until September,! I "Big Doc", and Mrs. Davis are I | at their home at Holden Beach. | Both are big in heart and body. \ j Over his garage, near the home,; i "Big Doc" has constructed him- j j self a small living room, bed- j room, bathroom and kitchenette. He tells us that he aims to re tire there from the big house ! whenever he is feeling henpeck ed. "Boy." he said, "when the | Holden Beach ferry gives out ;and you can't get home, you arid I will have a time in here." A few years ago Federal Court 1 officials in Raleigh asked us to pick out a list of good and hon orable Brunswick men that they might call on for duty during sessions at Wilmington. Although we knew very few honorable men who would not get mad at , us if they ever found out our ? part in It, we picked Charley Russ of Shallotte as one. Last wo?k- jUi?rJey was sitting, on. tit* FeStewri "Court Jury in Wilming ton and his jaw became infected from some cause or other. They (gave him sulphur drug, pumped penicillin into him. excused him and sent him homo. The last we saw of him he was about re covered from jury duty. We have an idea that Mrs. R. H. Holden, of Shallotte and Hol den Beach, is beginning to have an Idea that we are the most incorrigible person she has ever i met. This because we never let I her have the last word in any thing. We may have the advant age of her owing to having had several years of experience arg uing with the Duchess of Camel lia Inn, at Southport. But that should not be charged up against us. The other day, while Mrs. Holden's beautiful daughter was at the Shallotte home her mother showed us Rose Marie's beach home, even The terrible pin-ups in her own room. The Ferry at Holden Beach has been up on dry land all of this week. The State Highway Commission hauled the contrap tion out for repairs Monday morning and it is not due to slide back into the water until tonight or early Thursday morning. The folks over at the beach have been having to paddle a boat when they wanted to leave, or come back. Other folks who want ed to get there have had to do the same. Since we always make our trip to Holden Beach the last of the week we think the State Highway Commission was very considerate of us by repairing the tub during the first half of the week. feare now in a position to take care of 0rders for lumber, building supplies and N BUILDERS SUPPLY, Inc.
