Launches All-Out Fight For
Nomination To Congress;
To Visit AH Seven Coun
ties
WILMINGTON, June 13?Har
grove Bellamy today stepped in
to the middle of his second-round
fight for a seat in the Congress
of th& United States with a new
I vigor which surprised even news
jmen who accompanied him on the
i first lap of his journey through
j seven counties of Southeastern
j North Carolina.
Bellamy, who repeatedly told
J district voters that "I do not have
{a set platform," reiterated his
enthusiastic support of the Wac
camaw River flo6d control and
drainage proposal and declared
"my services in Congress shall be
directed toward the development
of those projects which will bene
i fit both farmer and businessman."
The next two weeks will find
the Wilmington drug firm head
mingling with farmers and busi
ness leaders of all the seven count
ies in the district.
Bellamy's headquarters here an
nounced that their candidate for
i the House seat made vacant by
,the retirement of J. Bayard Clark
is launching an all-out fight.
They quoted his as saying that
"as a good businessman I see
victory ahead, but I shall not be
satisfied with a stone left unturn
ed to bring the nomination that
.will place me in Congress where
j I intend to do everything in my
power to place this area of our
State into the forefront and pro
ivide for our children their right
ful heritage."
The Wilmington candidate has
spoken feelingly of the need for
opening up larger area of oppor
tunity for Southeastern North
Carolina citizens through such re
clamation projects as the Wac
camaw and through a program
to bring industries to this section.
"The Brunswick and Columbus
project is probably only one of
many that should be developed
through congressional aid," he
stated. "I cite it as an example
and pledge myself to follow thr
ough to a successful conclusion.
However, I shall explore every
possible avenue of bringing about
the development of other projects
looking to the betterment of con
ditions in every nook and corner
of the district."
For the entire seven counties,
Bellamy said "I am grateful for
the strong support accorded me
in the May 29 primary, an I look
forward to victory in the June 26
run-off!
