The club chartered a bus i which left at 6:30 o'clock in the afternoon taking the club mem ! bers to the beach where they 'spread the picnic supper on the I porch of the Long Beach Pavilion through the cooperation of the ; owners, E. B. TomlinSon, Jr., and ; Carl Watkins. The hostesses for this meeting .were Mrs. John Swan, Mrs. Laura St. George and Miss Hilda Muller. i The others attending the picnic were: Miss Corrine Greene, Home Demonstration Agent, and her guest. Miss Vera Corley, Mrs. A. IE. Downing, Mrs. Anna Davis, Mrs. Johnnie Watkins, Miss Alet ta Glover, Mrs. Robert Willis and son Charles, Mrs. Worth Ward, Mrs. Harry Weeks, Mrs. W. S. Wells, Sr., Mrs. Matilda Barnett, Mrs. Thomas Larsen, Mrs. Roger Clemmons, Miss Lottie Mae New ton, Miss Marie lawan, Miss Doris Swan, Miss Janice Swan and Miss Martha Easley. The next meeting of the South 'port Club will be held September 14th at 8 o'clock P. M. at the i home of Mrs. W. S. Wells, Sr. with Miss Lottie Mae Newton serving as joint hostess. JULY WEDDING Miss Vada Simmons, daughter of Rev. Simmons of Waccamaw, and Winford Hewett, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hewett, of Holden Beach, were married July 25th in South Carolina. They are making their home at Little Ferry, N. J HONORS SISTER Miss Kay Hewett of Shallotte Point entertained her sister, Bet ty, at her home on her 9th birth day on August 14th. Guests play ed many interesting games, and refreshments were served. Every one had a good time. The guests present were: Ralph Hewett, Emma Laye Milliken, Teddy and Bunchy Leonard, Lor etta Leonard, Carlene, Jenette, Christine and Odell Benton, Tony and Dora Ellen Milliken, Sam mi e and Shelby Leonard, Bar bara Ann Milliken. BIRTHDAY PARTY Mrs. Bernice Brown entertained on Friday afternoon at her home in honor of'her daughter, B^tty Lou, on the occasion of her tenth birthdajJ. The children enjoyed playing a number of games after which re freshments were served to the following guests: Kitty Lewis, Dirphus McDowell, Erma Lou, \ Sandra, Shipley and Betty Lewis, j Frankie Brown, Darrell Brown, Charles McDowell, Jimmy Al bright, Jimijiy Brown, Tommie Lewis, and Alvie Karl Lewis. SURPRISE PARTY A surprise birthday party was given for^Bill Hewett, Jr., by his mother, Mrs. Gafford Hewett, at her home on August 17th honor ing him on his 7th birthday. Her brother and a few friends attended. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Hood, spent a week in St. Petersburg, Fla., with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Harold .Watson of St. Petersburg, Fla. are visiting Mrs. George Y. Watson. Mrs. J.- Walter Williamson of Wilmington and Mrs. Finley L. Williamson and daughter, Miss Gay Williamson, and son, Finley L. Williamson, III, of Greensboro, were visitors in Southport Mon day. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Waynick are spending three weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Roland Taylor at Long Beach. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Jetton of Charlotte are at the Cranmer cot tage on Long Beach and had as their guests this past week end Mr. and M*s. W. M. Nicholson, who was formerly the assistant U. S. District Attorney of the West ern District of North Carolina and a former law partner of Hon.. Lamar Caudle, Assistant, District Attorney of the United States, in Washington. Miss Ann Dicks of Charlotte is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Jetton at the Cranmer cottage. Thomas Jetton, a student at Davidson College, is a week end guest of his parents on Long Beach. William M. Nicholson, Jr., a student at Wake Forest College, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Jetton at Long Beach. Earl Brown, who has been teaching classes at the summer school at State College, is spend ing several days this week with his family, who have been visit ing Mrs. C. Ed. Taylor during the month of August. Mr. and Mrs. David Watson and children of Cleveland, Ohio, are visiting MrS. Ida M. Watsop. Mr. Watson is a former principal of Southport high school. NICE SHEEPSHEAD A Fayetteville man, whose name has not been learned, caught a 9-pound 2-ounce sheepshead while fishing at the wreck of the Ranger at Holden Beach Sunday afternoon. ? RETURN' TO BEACH Dr. and. Mrs. H. C. Bird and daughter, Frances, have returned to their home at Holden Beach from Duke University.
