Fishing Parties At Howell Point This Popular Inshore Fish ing Spot Promises To Be come More And More Prominent In Fishing News Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Whitley, .who operate the small hotel and Keep a large number of small boats at Howell's Point for. the ^commodation of inside fishing parties, made an encouraging re port this week about the fish be ginning to bite good in the in lets. They also say that their road, recently taken over and being worked by the State, is in good condition. This is the first time they have ever had anything that could be called a road to this pop ular fishing point at the mouth ? of the Lockwood Folly river. The fishihg has been rather poor during the summer but all, parties have been satisfied. It is now getting: better rapidly and an Increasing number of fisher folk are coming in. Among their parties during the past several days have been Jam !es Whiteworth and a party from 'Gastonia, who made a nice catch; . Edmond Lewis and son, from Wil mington, who got 17 nice black drum; R. B. Babbington and an other party from Gastonia; Mr, J and Mrs, W. C. Haswell and a party from Durham; Bill Wood burn and a party from Gibson jville; Raymond Howell and a par ty from Gastonia; Mr, Hiney and a party from Wadesboro; H. A. j Freeman and a party from High i Point; Rev. Mr. Clemmon with a party of 10 or 12; Mr. and Mrs. i Pleasants and Mr. and Mrs. Gib son and another party from Loulsburg:- all the past week; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Roberts and a party from Hickory. With six ! years in the Navy, Mr. Spencer married in California and has con tinued to reside there. AT N. C. STATE Jack Swain, son of Capt. and Mrs. John G. Swan, and Herbert Swain, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Swain, Sr., left Tuesday to enter North Carolina State Col lege. They graduated with the class of 1948. FIRES DESTROYS HOME The home and furnishings of Mr. and Mrs. Grover M. Sellers on Route 17 west of Supply, was completely destroyed by fire one night recently. There was some insurance, according to reports, but this would hardly cover the loss. MAKING PROGRESS Residents of Shallotte say that good progress is now being made in the construction of the new heme for the Shallotte Post Amer ican Legion. The building is 40x60 feet and contains offices, kitchen, hall, etc. It is on Route 17, about a mile west of Shallotte. ON AIRCRAFT CARRIER Hiomas H. Wolfe, Jr., son of Thomas H. Wolfe, of Winnabow, is serving in the Navy as a boil erman, first class, on board the aircraft carrier USS Philippine which was recently awarded the Battle Efficiency Penant and "E" for her general excellence. REENTERS UNIVERSITY Halstead HoWn, son of Dr. and Mrs. R. H. Holden of Shallotte will reenter the 'University of North Carolina on September 23.
