West Will Play
For Christmas i
Virgil West and His Orchestra
of Delco will play for the annual]
Christmas Dance of the Whiteville
Woman's Club on Saturday even
ing.
Announcement of additional
plans for the Christmas Night
affair, which has become a tradi
tion in Whiteville, was made to
day by Mrs. P. C. Townsend,
chairman of publicity for the
dance.
West has played in Whiteville
on several occasions in the past
and he and his musicians are
quite popular with dancing groups
all over this section. He is a
former musical director with the
late Major Bowes' all-star unit
and once played with both the
Richmond and North Carolina
Spmphony orchestras.
The popular orchestra leader
was the RKO Stage Pressentations
for eight years and has played
numerous engagements with ho
tels and clubs.
The present orchestra recently
played 18 months at the Planta
tion Club in Wilmington and is
the same group which appeared
here at the Christmas Dance of
the past two years.
The dance will begin at 9
o'clock Christmas Night.
The Woman's Club has arranged
the Christmas Night party every
year, except for a two-year war
interruption, since 1939, as a
; community affair from both young
[and old people of the community.
1 It is a non-profit designed to give
j local people a chance to get to-j
gether during the holiday sea-.

The warm weather of the Fall
months has undoubtedly delayed
the purchase of Winter merchan

moving of store stocks is believed
to be excellent. The holiday trade
and the certain coming of Winter
is expected to reduce stocks to
