In other words, we have both Miami and Maine fish and other inhabitants of the deep. This overlapping | gives collectors some easy pick ings, especially if they follow closely and have the cooperation of the shrimping and fishing crews. The boatman frequently find both beauty and value in the scoopings of their trawls from the floor of the ocean. If unusual forms of marine life are desired by the museum that has started up at Southport, no betterway of obtaining specimems could be hit upon than by contacting all boats captains and asking them to save the unusual things. It being an easy way to get around some and seeing what is going on in Brunswick county at places we do not get to visit often, we will be going around with tax collector Edward Red wine the last of this week and first of next week. Some years ago we started making these rounds with Tax Collector W. P. Jorgensen. Mr. Jorgensen having been made county auditor and Mr. Redwine tax collector, we are continuing pretty much the same. Without explaining to their wives where they might be found, Phil Wright, state news editor of the Wilmington News, and Steve Wall, staff writer on the same paper, came down to Southport Friday afternoon after getting out their paper. They spent some hours just getting acquainted with the town and its folks. At 7 o'clock and with only one or two of the fishing boats having come in, Phil phoned his wife in Wil AMUZU THEATRE SOUTHPORT, N. C. Admission?9c and 25c Two Shows Nightly? Just now we have no county I agent to quote with regard to the conditions on the farm, small i grain, etc. In the absence of such I authority we are making our own i observations that the small grain ? crop is looking exceedingly good. ! In fact, everything on the farms j is looking good. J H. Holden asked when the South j port negro basket ball team was J to have another game at home. I He wanted to see it and take his family to see it. Just a few min I utes later Hobson Kirby, leading Shallotte merchant, put the same question. He also wanted to see the colored boys and girls and their top-notch cheering section in action. With their combination of good playing and acting by cheer leaders, the local negro school will never need to adver tise a basket ball game in order to get out paying spectators. Bear steak must be a great deal more popular than we had sus pected. Some weeks ago we hadi something in the papers about the Phelps boys leaving us a bear ham at the Brunswick Cold Stor age in Shallotte. Well, sir, al though we did not say that the cold storage had such meat for sale, requests for bear meat be gan to arrive at the cold storage from all parts of the state. It happened that they did have a bit of bear meat on hand and it went like hot cakes. That is fine news to hundreds of people in Brunswick county who have been waiting patiently for electric lights and power. It may be a long time before the telephone companies can see their way to wards giving the same general service that the REA gives. Still, there is right much room for hope of improved phone services in Brunswick this year. Folks must really be reading it in the papers.
