RUARK CANDIDATE FOR SHERIFF This week I have pretty well made the rounds of the county, and I honestly do not see how my prospects could be better at this stage of the race. There are a lot or reports of trading around and shifting of support for other candidates, but I am thank ful that this has not involved any of my good friends I have been depending on to help m? to be nominated and elected Sheriff of Brunswick county. My strength is holding firm, and that’s the way it will remain with the continued loyal support of my friends who want to see a better system of Law Enforcement. ED V. PROPOSE POWER j (Continued from page one) , lse late in June or early in July from Georgetown, S. C., to South port and to proceed up the coast ’ within about a quarter of a mile or less from shore. This near course to shore would permit the boats being seen by thousands of spectators at Myrtle Beach, Ocean Drive, Cherry Grove, Holden Beach and Long Beach. The time of the fastest Van 1 derbilt boats is still a matter of record. The plans, if they are 1 carried out, will be for a sport ; ing event, and boats from Chari l eston, Wilmington, Morehead City ■ and other points will be challeng ed to run it along the Vanderbilt ; course and to beat the time set by the fastest of these vessels. The cruise should be on a hand ' icap basis, permitting craft of different power to all round Fort Caswell and head into Southport i at about the same time. Beating the Vanderbilt time should be the watchword for all boats. Organizations at Georgetown, Myrtle Beach and other points are being contacted to get their reactions to such a race or cruise. Some of the power boat clubs will also be contacted and If the rea ctions are satisfactory the cruise will probably be staged for some ■ time in June or July. ASKS PERMISSION Continued From Page One ' the engineers in Wilmington or at the post office in Southport. It has been understood locally for some time that Mr. Wells and other interests have been planning the construction of a menhaden factory at the above location. I saw her in 11928, a ferryboat taking cars and i passengers across Lake Poncia | train in New Orleans. This was a : 22-mile trip. Good roads and bridges put her out of business there and I next saw her in New York Harbor during the 1938 Worlds Fair. She was then en gaged in carrying passengers from the Battery to the Statue of Liberty.
