Galloway, over the week-end. Miss Sue Williamson, teacher in the Bladenboro high school, spent the week end here with her moth er. Miss Aileen Watts of Spring Valley, N. Y., arrived Friday to spend the Easter Holidays with her mother, Mrs. Laura Watts. Mr. and Mrs. D. I. Watson and children of Smithfield visited friends and relatives here during the holiday week end. Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Durham of Raleigh spent the Easter week end here with Mrs. I. B. Bussells and family. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Townsend and son, Jerry, spent the week end here with Capt. and Mrs. J. I. Davis. Mrs. Ray Walton spent the holi day week end in Columbia, S. C„ with her mother, who has been critically ill. Robin Hood, now stationed in Norfolk, Va., with the U. S. Navy, spent the week end here with his mother, Mrs. Ruth Hood. B. L. Furpless spent Thursday in Raleigh with his brother, James Furpless. VISIT LONG BEACH Superior Court Judge and Mrs. Frank Armstrong of Troy and Long Beach spent the week end here. Asked when he would get started to rebuilding at the beach, Judge Armstrong said, “Soon, 1 hope.” He added “I will never build a summer home at any beach except Long Beach. CAKE & PIE SALE Members of the Margaret Park hill Auxiliary of St. Phillips Epis copal Church will hold a cake and pie sale at the office of the Carr Insurance Agency at 10 o'clock Saturday morning. Town Creek News The folks through this section are getting ready to set out to bacco in about ten days. If the blue mold does not show up the farmers can be setting tobacco in a big way. We attended the Easter services at Zion Methodist Church Sunday morning and we surely did have a large crowd, including many vis itors. Mrs. A. E. Willetts is spending a few days on Town Creek among her children. W. H. Hare and family of Ra leigh spent Sunday with his moth er. Mrs. Roy Braddock and family of Petersburg, Va. spent the week end here with her mother, Mrs. M. B. Watkins. Mrs. Betty Hare and family of Winter Park spent Monday with his mother. Brunson of South NOTICE TO VOTERS CITY OF SOUTHPORT At the City Election on Tuesday, May 3, 1955, you will be given an opportunity to vote on the question of whether Southport shall in stall the City Manager system of government. A recent act of the State Legislature has authorized this action, subject to the will of the voters as expressed by their ballot during the coming city election. AN ACT TO PROViDE FOR AN ELECTION IN THE TOWN OF ; SOUTHPORT, NORTH CAROLINA, UPON THE QUESTION OF ADOPT ING THE CITY MANAGER FORM OF GOVERNMENT. The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact: Section 1. That the governing body of the Town of Southport shall, within one year from the date of ratification of this Act, cause to be submitted to the qualified voters of the Town of Southport, at any regular municipal election or at a special election called by the governing body of said Town for that purpose, the following amend ment to the city charter: “(a) The Charter of the Town of Southport, Brunswick County, be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto the following: rIhe beard of aldermen shall appoint a city manager who shall be the administrative head of the city government and shall be responsible lor the administration of all departments of the city government. lie shall be appointed with regard to merit only, and he need not be a resident of the city when appointed. He shall hold office ■ during the pleasure of the board of aldermen and shall receive such compensation as it shall fix by ordinance. “1 he city manager so appointed shall (1) be the administrative head of the city government; (2) see that within the city the laws of the State and the ordinances, resolutions, and regulations of the gov erning body are faithfully executed; (3) attend all meetings of the governing body, and recommend for adoption such measures as he shall deem expedient; (4) make reports to the governing body from time to time upon the affairs of the city, keep the governing body fully advised of the city’s financial condition and its future financial needs; (5) appoint and remove all heads of departments and other employees of the city except the city attorney and the city auditor who shall be appointed by the governing body.” Sec. 2. At the time of holding the special election hereinabove provided for, the question of the adoption of this amendment to the Charter of the Town of Southport shall be submitted to the qualified voters of the town as said election. Those voters who are in favor of the adoption of the amendment shall vote a ballot upon which shall be printed or written the words “For Amendment Providing for City Manager Form of Government”, and those voters who are opposed to the adoption of such form of government shall vote a ballot upon which shall be printed or written the words “Against Amendment Providing for City Manager Form of Government.” If at said election a majority of the votes cast shall be “For Amendment Providing for City Manager Form of Government” the said amendment shall be adopted and become a part of the Charter of the Town of Southport, and shall become effective at the beginning of the next municipal fiscal year subsequent to the declaration of the result of said election. If a majority of the votes cast shall be “Against Amendment for City Manager Form of Government,” said amendment shall be null and void and shall not become a part of the Charter of the Town of South port. Sec. 3. That laws and clauses of laws in conflict with the pro visions of this Act to the extent of said conflict are hereby repealed. Sec. 4. Tyler of Travis City, Michigan, have been spending several days here with friends. Tyler was steward at the Dosher-Memorial Hospital, leaving there to go into business for hin seif at Travis City.
