Letter To Editor Wilmington, North Carolina June 8, 1955. Publisher, State Port Pilot, Southport, North Carolina. Dear Sir: With his usual alertness and spirit of fidelity toward matters historical, we think our mutual friend, Harry Hayden, of Wil mington, has conceived a splendid objective, with his suggestion that you institute proper efforts to have returned to historic Fort Johnson, at least two of the 24 cannon which were placed there originally in the days of King George II, of England. It was a shame that any of them were ever moved elsewhere. If "you all*' can secure the return of at least two of them promptly, and we mean by that the earliest pos sible date, you might be better off than searching Jason’s Golden Fleece through time and eternity hoping for the entire total num ber to be returned. We feel sure that Senators Ervin and Scott ,and we know that Congressman Carlyle, will be glad to-assist in every way possi ble, in such ways as you might seek their assistance. We know there is nothing definite or tan gible that we at the upper neigh borly end of Brunswick can do, but if we can assist now or in the immediate future please do not hesitate to call on us. The big | tiling in mind is tu secure the re storation of one or two of the cannon and our best wishes at tend your eforts to accomplish this end. Sincerely yours, Louis T.
