I will be working all the rest of this week, and will call on as many as pos sible in person. Durwood Clark Congressman Is Friday Visitor Congressman F. Ertel Car lyle Visits Sunny Point Army Terminal In Which He Has Long Been Inter ested Congressman F. Ertel Carlyle, with a deep interest in Sunny Point, visited the installation again Friday for a couple of hours. He was the guest of Col. William A. McAleer at the Sunny Point Cafeteria for lunch and afterwards Col. McAleer carried him on a tour of the installation. The interest and help given by Congressman Carlyle during the days of construction of Sunny Point was recognized last fall at the dedication of the facilities. He was selected as the speaker of the day for that occasion. During the Friday trip to the installation the Congressman commented that on his first trip to the location in company with a local newsman in 1951, there was nothing but woods and barren fields. In pictures made at the time and widely distributed, the Congressman was shown pointing FOR REGISTER OF DEEDS For the past 7 V:2 years I have worked in the office of the Register of Deeds of this County and have been your Deputy Register of Deeds for over 5 years. On Saturday the people of this county, at the poles, are going to nominate someone to run this of fice for the next 4 years. I believe my experience and knowledge of the work qualifies me to effficiently and economically do the job. YOUR VOTE AND SUPPORT WILL BE APPRECIATED. Mrs. Pauline Swain out to his companion approxi mately where the docks would be. Friday he laughed as he comment ed that the dock has appeared just where he pointed, (No 1 Dock) but two others he had failed to reckon with now stretch out for two miles up the river. In Southport Congressman Carlyle discussed with friends plans on which he, Senator W. Kerr Scott, Senator Sam J. Ervin and Governor Luther Hodges are all actively working relative to past storm damage and additional plans to safeguard in the future. Two Motorcades Visit Brunswick A Robeson County motorcade for Congressman F. Ertel Carlyle swept through Brunswick county Tuesday. No publicity had pre ceeded the event but the 75 or 80 ardent boosters of the Con gressman were very much pleased at the interest they found in Carlyle, according to statements made while in Southport. Another motorcade, formed by supporters of Candidate Alton Lennon from Wilmington was scheduled for several stops in Brunswick county this morning. Good Results From Ball Show Reports From Friday Night Performance In Southport Indicates Good Interest And Profitable Results Coming to Southport to put on a benefit for the Southport Jun ior Patrol, Jerry Ball and Archie Thornhill of the Esso Standard Oil Company were greeted by an audience that completely filled the auditorium Friday night. As usual when he comes to this area, Jerry’s handling of the piano, the "Musiquiz”, talent snow and awarding of prizes all con tributed to a splendid evening of entertainment, set off by Thorn hill’s performance as master of ceremonies. The entertainment was under the sponsorship of the Safety Pa trol of the school. The ticket sales netted over $130, all of which will go to equip the patrol members. There it received a rating of ex cellent in completition with 24 other B Division bands. The highlights of the annual concert on Friday was the pres entation of selections from Carouse and a cornet solo by Eddie McCracken, with band ac companiment. The drum major for the year has been Ralph Harrison Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raphael Parker. From spectators of the various events he has earned much praise for his excellent work in leading the band. With a lot of talented boys and girls coming up. Director Riggs is anticipating having a Methodist Bible School Tuesday1 Arrangements are almost com plete for the daily vacation Bible school at Trinity Methodist church beginning Tuesday, May 29 at 9 o'clock and running through the next two weeks.
