riage of Miss Vera Anne Willis
to Mr. Jesse Thomas Bostic, Jr.
are complete.
The wedding will take place at
four o'clock, Saturday afternoon,
June 20, at the Trinity Methodist
Church.
No imitations are being mailed
in town but friends of both fam
ilies are invited to attend.

The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Clemmons of Bo

Hostess To Club
The Mill Creek Home Demon
stration Club held its meeting
with Mrs. Elizabeth Sellers. The
meeting was opened by the group
singing “Beautiful Dreamer”. De
votion thought was led by Mrs.
Mary Lumsden and prayer by
Mrs. Jewell Danford. The roll was
called and minutes were read and
approved.
Mrs. Lumsden gave a report on
the last county council meeting.
The following reports were given:
Community Service, Education,
Food and Nutrition, Health and
Safety, Arts and Crafts, Clothing,
Home Management.
Mrs. Lumsden then gave a
demonstration on “Pots and Pans
for Your Kitchen”.
The club collect was repeated
and then the social hour was
enjoyed by everyone.
Garden Club In
Luncheon Session
A delightful luncheon was the
feature for the Southport Garden
Club last Tuesday at the home
of Mrs. E. C. Harrelson. Co-host
esses for the occasion were Mrs.
James M. Harper, Jr., Mrs. Fred
Willing, Mrs. ' Guy Garrett and
Mrs. J. E. Dodson.
The living and dining rooms
were lovely with white summer
flowers and green foliage. The
meal consisted of baked ham,
scalloped potatoes, spiced peaches,
congealed vegetable salad, hot
rolls, heavenly pie, and iced tea.

dette, J. A. Gilbert, L. J. Har
dee, A. E. Huntley, Libby Keith,
E. E. Parker, D. C. Pigott, H. T.

Garden Club Holds
Annual Banquet
Members of the Live Oak Gar
den Club were entertained at a
cocktail hour and formal dinner
on Thursday evening at the Com
munity Building. Mrs. J. B. Warth
and Mrs. Anson Lewis were host
esses for the evening, with Mrs.
H. A. Livingston, Mrs. Jack Hick
man and Mrs. Ormand Leggett
assisting.
Mrs. Leggett served at the
punch bowl during the cocktail
hour and the table was decorated
with white gladioli, gypsophilia,
fever few and ivy.
The dining tables were cover
ed with lace cloths and adorned
with flower arrangements of
shaster daises, gypsophilia and
ivy. Dinner was served by can
dlelight with a background of
recorded music.
After dinner the last meeting
of the season was called to order
by the president, Mrs. George
Gregory, using the club collect
for devotionals. She also gave a
report on the year’s work and
thanked the members of the club
for their cooperation throughout
the past year. She then presented
the club with a certificate of
honor, in appreciation of out
standing service to the Garden
Club of N. C. Inc., for year
1958-1959. Mrs. Warth presented
a gift to Mrs. Gregory from the
club in appreciation for her lead
ership as president for the past
year.
The new officers were present
ed and installed by Mrs. Warth,
a past president. They are Mrs.
Gregory, president; Mrs. Clinton
Bellamy, 1st vice-president; Mrs.
A. A. Dixon, 2nd vice-president;
Mrs. Rees Swan, secretary; Mrs.
Hickman, treasurer; Mrs. Lewis,
parliamentarian.
Members attending were: Mrs.
Livingston, Mrs. Leggett, Mrs.
Lewis, Mrs. Warth, Mrs. Hick
man, Mrs. Gregory, Mrs. Bellamy,
Mrs. Dixon, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Rob
ert Martin, Mrs. Roy Arntsen,
Mrs. Tom Webb, Mrs. Harold
Aldridge, Mrs. Basil Watts, Mrs.
Donald St. George, Mrs. Swan,
Mrs. Hoyle Dosher, Mrs. Gene
Tomlinson.
The meeting was then adjourn
ed until September when the new
year begins. Members chose part
ners for their favorite card game
to end a delightful evening.

The Acorn Junior Garden Club
held its June meeting' last Mon
day at 5 p. m. in the home of
Susan Bellamy.
The meeting was called to or
der by the president, Jeanne
Brown. After a short business
meeting, Mrs. J. B. Warth in
stalled the following new officers:

held its May meeting at the
home of Dianne Warth. The meet
ing was called to order by the
president, Jeanne Brown and a
short business session was held.

club members held a workshop
and made. corsages from dried
material.

ships, will visit 27 cities in the ]
seven states bordering the Great
Lakes. The ships will enter the
Great Lakes on June 25 and re
turn to the Atlantic Fleet in
late July. This is the first time
a major fleet has been on the
Great Lakes since the War of
1812. The entry of the ocean
going fleet is made possible by
the opening of the recently-com
pleted St. Lawrence Seaway. The
ships will visit the following
cities and states: Illinois—Chica
go; Indiana—Michigan City;
Michigan—Bay City, Detroit, Mar
quette, Muskegon, Port Huron,
Mackinaw City, Sault Ste Marie,
Cheboygan; Minnesota—Duluth;
