High Times
By: Barbara St. George
and Lela Rivenbark
We would like to welcome our
principal, Mr. Turner, and our
new teachers, Mrs. Lingle, Mrs.
Lewis, Mrs.' Huckaby, Mrs. Glore
and Mr. Sanders. We also would
like to welcome all of our new
students to Southport High
School.
This year Southport High offers
a new 3-hour subject for the
boys. It is the Marine Industrial
course. We also have a new build
ing over next to our gym, for this
class. The boys seem to enjoy
this very much. Mr. Bowmer is j
the teacher.
The students of this school
have been issued student cards
to get in the movies at a special
price. We appreciate this very
much and we want to thank Mr. I
Furpless for doing us this favor.!
Our boys have been practicing
for football, and it looks like we
will have a good team. Work
hard, Boys, and we’ll be rooting
for you. Be sure and go to our
first game this Friday night. We
will play Bolivia at Shallotte. See
you there.
One of the most important pro
jects of the year for the junior
class is the re-e3tablishment of
the school library which was in
quite a state of shambles. Shelves
were missing and most of the
books are just simply beyond re
pair. With the help of Mrs. Glore,
the junior home-room teacher, a
small number of the junior class
got started on this project Sat
urday morning. Windows were
scrubbed and various other things
were done. The library really
looks a lot better. Work and co
operation is the receipt for the
re-establishment of a really good
library, so let’s all help as much
