Duffie carried on page one December 21st issue of the State Port Pilot please grant the courtesy of the same medium through which to assure Lt. Col. Duffie that the people of South port are indeed warmly grateful for his frank complimentory, stim ulating appraisal. He deftly weaves a most de lightful thread of intimacy and fellowship into a choice garment of beauty and appeal. The lure and fragrance of it will linger on and on and will endure. Surely what a “flipperdinger” is you’ll have to read this week's State Magazine. They're made a long way from the waterfront, which is the only way we could think of to get from Christmas cards to nautical notes. And since the Harpers didn’t get around to sending a single Christmas card, here’s wishing you a very Happy New Year! ... kind words are the oasis in the realm of human relations offer ing gentle healing. How very vividly Lt. Col. Duffie portrays hem. I heartily join the people f Southport and Brunswick bounty in thanking you warmly, lolonel Duffie, for your splendid :ompliment. Sincerely, James B. NEW BUSINESS ■ Sellers Beauty Shoppe has open ed for business at Supply, in the former location of Harriett’s Beauty Shop, with Mrs. Frank Johnson and Mrs. Bera Sellers Waterfront The Dennings, old friends and former neighbors, sent greetings from Clinton and Miss Annie Kay Vitou remembered us from Row land. The crowning glory came from the State Magazine, or the Bill Sharpes. It was in a box shaped like a tie box and was a "flipper dinger.” And if you want to know HOT DOGS— SANDWICHES— TRY DARI - MAID SHALLOTTE, N. C. ASSOCIATE STORE PHONE PL 4-8037 SHALLOTTE, N. C. One from Woodrow Piner, with a New York APO, wishing us a Happy New Year. A card from Charlie Splawn from Washington, D. C., indicates that he’s married since we last heard from him as it’s signed “and Brenda”. An attractive one, which we’re sure he picked out just for us, from Eddie Lindner is a scene of two hunters shoot ing quail. There are two pointers holding staunchly and the back ground shows a moss covered live oak. The scene could be Bruns wick County, though the card came from Iowa where Eddie’s in school. A welcomed card from Florida is from Capt. Howard Victor and his “Cadet", which reminded us of pleasant times in years past. The card was preceded a few days before by a birth announcement from Miami saying that Susan now has a daughter, Susan Ro berta. Quite an unusual card arrived from the Stanley Souths, a hand painted one aiong impressionistic lines. What it represents to us is the light of the Star shining over the fields where the shep herds watched. We didn’t know archaeologists were artistic, or could it be the wife?
