Almost all of these seedlings will be produced in state nurser ies, the Forest Service reports. Farmers who want cost-shar ing assistanoe in planting trees as a conservation practice are urged to make their requests as soon as possible. The Brunswick county ASC office is accepting applications now, Evans said. He pointed out that under the Agri cultuarl Conservation Program (ACP) the federal government shares the cost of tree planting for conservation. Costs are shared between farmers and the govern ment on land preparation, cost of planting stock, and the actual planting costs. Bones McKinney In Heart Drive Heading up the state-wide Heart Fund drive for the second consecutive year will be one of the nation’s top basketball coaches Wake Forest’s Bones McKinney. The anouncement came this week from A. H. Gainey, Jr., who is the Heart Fund Chairman for the Brunswick County Heart Cou ncil. “Bones led us to victory last February, " said Gainey, "when the largest Heart Fund total in the annual campaign’s history was reached: $416,117£3, We' know wejwill succeed a’gaia in February, 1961 with Coach McKinney call ing the plays.’’ Heart volunteers are being re cruited now by the Brunswick County Heart council, According to its Fund Raising representa tive. “In adition to the door-to door solicitation to be conducted on Heart Sunday-February 26th there will be special money-rais ing events and a number of other campaign activities for which we will need help,” he said. “Those interested in signing up for what ever hours of work they can give may do so by calling Gladstone 7-6253,” he added. The State Heart Fund Chair man was born Horce Albert Mc Kinney in Pamlica County. His family moved to Durham when he was five and he attended Dur ham public schools, State College, and the university at Chapel Hill. Four years of Army service and a period in professional basketball interrupted his college years, then in 1952 he entered South eastern Baptist Seminary at Wake Forest. After his ordination he served as pastor of a Raleigh Baptist church, while working as assistant basketball coach at Wake Forest.
