Harbour section of Long Beach | ready access to the Intracoastal ! Waterway and the sea. The canal has been linked with the waterway and this week a spokesman for the huge develop ment said that “boating enthusi asts familiar with the dredging, as now accomplished, can use the link between Big Davis, the wa terway, and of course, the ocean.” Some work remains, said the spokesman, before the project is completed. Eventually the canal will be cleared all the way to Lockwood Folly Inlet. Ashed for a date on this, the spokesman guessed that it would be "some time this winter. In time”, he added, “for the opening of the summer season in 1962. There are a small number of shoals in the canal, left by drag line operations when a soft spot was encountered. These will have to be dredged anewi—n order to establish a uniform six-feet of drew water. The canala, some places well over one-hundred feet across, will have a minimum of 100-feet at bottom. Lincoln Construction Co. of Wilmington and Leland, are the contractors for the project. One immediate result of the dredging has been an increase in j fishing activities. E. W. Morgan and Guy Smith, both permanent residents of Tranquil Harbour, in two short excursions during the j past few days caught 58 flounder ; in Big Davis Creek. The fishing pier at Long Beach also reports large catches of | speckled trout during the past j fe wdays.
