Changes Made In Social Security Social Security Administration) The new amendments to the social security law signed by President Kennedy last week, in cluded the following changes ac cording to Albert P. Mason, dis trict manager of the Wilmington office. Men who are between 62 and 65 may now get monthly social security benefits. Women be tween these ages have been able to do so since 1956. If the men elect to receive benefits before reaching age 65, they will re ceive a reduced amount and their benefit will remain reduced when they reach age 65. The length of time a person needs to have worked to become entitled to benefits has been reduced. Under the new law, a man reaching age 65 or a wo man 62 this year will need social security credit for only 2)4 years of work instead of the present requirement of 3 >4 years. Any person who has worked for at least 2J4 years and was denied benefits because he had not worked long enough should get in touch with the social security office again. The benefits payable to aged widows, dependent widowers and dependent parents will be in creased by about 10 per cent. Those entitled to these increases do not need to get in touch with their social security office. This increase is automatic and will be added to the checks they will re ceive early in September, 1961. HOT DOGS— SANDWICHES— TRY DARI - MAID SHALLOTTE, N. C. Under the old law, the lowest monthly benefit was $33. The amendments raised this amount to $40. There are approximately 2,175.000 persons who now re ceive benefits below $40. These people will have their payments increased to $40 beginning with the cheeks to be received early in September, 1961. This change will be made automatically and there is no need for beneficiaries to apply for this increase. Another change was in the so called “retirement test.” This change will directly or indirect ly affect everybody under 72 receiving old age or survivors in surance benefits. Under the old law, a person could earn $1,200 a year and receive all of his monthly social security benefits. One dollar in benefits was with held for each $2 he earned be tween $1,200 and $1,500. Under the new law, $1 is withheld for each $2 between $1,200 and $1, Frink Family Back From Trip Mr. and Mrs. Sam J. Frink And Children Visited Salt Lake City During Past Month Mr. and Mrs. Sam J.
