Stolen Cars Found
By Highway Patrol
Quick work on the part of the
State Highway Patrol resulted in
the arrest of a 16-year-old Wil
! mington youth accused of stealing
a car last Saturday night at
Ocean Isle Beach.
Rayford Clayton Piver was re
leased on bond of $500 after
spending a night in the Bruns
wick County jail, following his
arrest for the theft of a 1955
Fold station wagon. Piver was
picked up about 10 o’clock Sunday
morning at Ocean Isle by High
way Patrolman W. H. Morgan,
Jr., only 12 hours after taking
off in the stolen vehicle.
Piver is said to have gone to
Ocean Isle to visit a brother em
ployed there in the shrimping in
dustry. The youth will be tried
during the coming Monday’s ses
sion of Recorder’s Court at South
port.

Four sessions were held during

j of Tar Heel writers.
Perhaps the most interesting
; part of the program was the
! panel discussion held on Friday
| night, during which Jonathan
i Daniels of Raleigh; Ovid Pierce.
; author of “The Plantation" and
! "On A Lonesome Porch”; and
: LeGette Blythe, former Charlotte
newsman-turned-author, discussed
the opportunities, hazards, helps
! and hindrances of writing.
In charge of this session and
acting as moderator was Chalmers
Davidson, professor of English at
the college which bears his name.
Thad Stem, Jr., Oxford poet,
presided during one of the closed
| sessions, and Julia Montgomery
; Street was in charge of a pr o
gram designed primarily for those
writing “juvenile” books.
