Stolen Cars Found By Highway Patrol Quick work on the part of the State Highway Patrol resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old Wil ! mington youth accused of stealing a car last Saturday night at Ocean Isle Beach. Rayford Clayton Piver was re leased on bond of $500 after spending a night in the Bruns wick County jail, following his arrest for the theft of a 1955 Fold station wagon. Piver was picked up about 10 o’clock Sunday morning at Ocean Isle by High way Patrolman W. H. Morgan, Jr., only 12 hours after taking off in the stolen vehicle. Piver is said to have gone to Ocean Isle to visit a brother em ployed there in the shrimping in dustry. The youth will be tried during the coming Monday’s ses sion of Recorder’s Court at South port. Southport Man At Blowing Rock Eugene Fallon Attends The Writers Conference In Western North Carolina Resort Some 70 authors gathered for the annual N. C. Writers Confer ence held on Friday and Satur day of last week at Blowing Rock. Attending from Southport was Eugene Fallon, member of the State Port Pilot news staff. Four sessions were held during j the meet, two of which were open | to the public and two of which were closed to all but participat I ing members of the unique group j of Tar Heel writers. Perhaps the most interesting ; part of the program was the ! panel discussion held on Friday | night, during which Jonathan i Daniels of Raleigh; Ovid Pierce. ; author of “The Plantation" and ! "On A Lonesome Porch”; and : LeGette Blythe, former Charlotte newsman-turned-author, discussed the opportunities, hazards, helps ! and hindrances of writing. In charge of this session and acting as moderator was Chalmers Davidson, professor of English at the college which bears his name. Thad Stem, Jr., Oxford poet, presided during one of the closed | sessions, and Julia Montgomery ; Street was in charge of a pr o gram designed primarily for those writing “juvenile” books.
