The lone Dixon touchdown came in the fourth quarter following a sustained drive of 65-yards. Bill Banks carried the ball across the goal, a fitting reward for his talented efforts to keep the march going. Ronnie Henderson ran suc cessfully for the extra point. Spencer got the show on the road in the first period when he took a 20-yard pass from Murphy at the Dixon forty and scored go ing away. The play covered 60 HOLIDAY DRIVE-IN SHALLOTTE, N. C. Garner ran successfully for the point. That was all for the first quar ter, but in the second Garner ran 15-yards to score after a 25 yard completion from Murphy to Spencer had set up the touch down. A running try for extra point failed. The flashy sophomore added another touchdown on a nmning play before the half, this one good for 25-yards. Southport took too much time as they lined up for the extra point try and were penalized 5 yards for delay of game. This didn’t stop them, for Rip Howard, freshman under study for Murphy, passed to Spencer in the end zone for the point that made the score 20-0 at halftime. Southport took the second-half kick-off and marched down to the Dixon 16-yard line before los ing the ball on downs. Then on the first play from that point the visitors fumbled and Southport re sumed their touchdown march. In fact, it came on one giant stride on the next play as Garner ran wide to his right to score stand ing up. Howard missed a running try for extra point. Murphy intercepted a ricochet ted pass at the Dixon 37-yard line near the close of the third period and four plays after the final quarter began Spencer scor ed on a 5-yard crossbuck. Michael Hardee, one of the “Untouch ables”, who were being used on all extra point tries .after the first two, fell shy of the goal on a running try. This left the score 31-0, but Dixon showed that it still had a will to win and some good foot ball players to carry it out when they took the kick-off' and never gave up the ball until Banks made their touchdown. The Dolphins, too, had one more ace up their sleeve—a homerun pass play from Murphy to Gar ner. From midfield the Dolphin lefty hit his fast-moving target, and the final score was on the board. Mighty Mike Lee was stopped short as he ran for the extra point. Serving as co-captams for this game were the seniors, Frankie Rogers, Bill Coring, Mike Patter son ai.d James Huestess, along with Freddie Spencer, and Mur phy. The four seniors have been mainstays on the Dolphin team this year, with Rogers being a standout in every game on de fense. Patterson has been parti cularly strong on his kicking cov erage from his end position. Hues tess has been the scatback of the Southport offense, and had the best game of his Career Friday night. Coring started off as the fullback, but made a necessary switch to tackle when personnel problems came up at midseason. Spencer played well at end until scholastic difficulties got him ear lier this month. It was another night when Coach Pete Lee's starters got lit tle relief. Wade Beard, freshman lineman who has turned out to be a valuable man, went in several times for various members of the forward wall. Ed Harper and Stacy Sellers, another pair of first year men, turned in good performances; as did tough little Bubba Rogers, smallest regular on the field. Jimmie Garner had another one of his good nights at guard. For the visitors, Banks stood out both on offense and defense, and may be the best visiting play er seen here this season.
