Dan'L Walker, who in his capa city of City Manager, manages the human population of Long Beach, declared, “It was most disillusioning—I’m sure the foxes of Tranquil will agree with this— to see the end of that particular chase. Not a seariet coat, peaked cap, horn, white breeches or pol ished black boots among them! Just a bunch of Southern boys out to bag a few foxes. Unlike the sporting British, the group did not cc’.teht. themselves with bringing pack a brush (tail) of their troerit.-, they brought along the whole iarcaases.” Dan identified the party and their home towns as follow: From Carthage. Calvin B. Blue, Jr., Dar rell Matthews and Gordon Mat thews; from Vass, William Bine, W. L. Richardson, W. L. Cameron and Lewis Garner; from Sanford, II. B. Womack and Arthur Bridges, and Raymond Elkin, who hails from Bear Creek. The party bagged ten foxes in only seven hours spent afield over the two-clay safari. And still ac cording to Dan’L. Walker, the lads all agreed that it was tfie finest fox hunting they had ever i enjoyed anywhere. Since there was nary a horse in j sight, the up-staters must have ; -.pen quite e. bit of Oak Island, i North Carolina, hunting afoot. For the ceueainish who remem ber the burnished coats of the wiliest wild, animal on the North American continent; their bright J eyes and, perhaps, a nest filled i with vixens awaiting mom and j pop’s return, be it then known that some of the carcasses mauled by the dogs clearly showed that the victims had grown fat from a diet of quail and other birds, in cluding those of song variety.
