Credit Sources Available
Under Rural Areas Program
Tar Heels have a wide variety
of credit sources under the Rural
Areas Development program.
"Eight agencies are lending
money to individuals and groups.
Lions are made for everything
from pig parlors to small town
homes to city water systems."
The agencies are Farmers Home
administration, Rural Electric
administration, the Bank for Co
operatives, the Federal Land
Bank, Production Credit associa
tions, the U. S. Department of'
Commerce, the Small Business ad
ministration and the Housing and
Home Finance agency.
interest rates range from three
and seven-eights to seven and a
half per cent. Repayments may
be up to 40 years.
Each of the agencies specialises
in certain types of loans, under
i
their own policies.
Farmers Home administration,
makes loans to farmers to en
large their enterprises, install
water systems, refinance debts.
They also lend money to build
homes and buildings qn farms and
in towns of less than 2,600 popu
lation.
FHA interest rates range from
four to five per cent.
Under the Area Re.de ve?opm»ni
administration, the Cqmmeree De
partment makes commercial and
industrial loans. These loans mu si
be in a designated redevelopment
area, and they must be part oi
the area’s Overall Economic De
velopment Plan.
Interest rates are irom three
and seven-eights to four per cent
at present.

Social Security
Changes Listed
It is now- possible for a farm
landlord to receive social security
credits even though his land is
farmed by an unpaid agent. In
the past, the acts of an unpaid
agent in performing physical
work, making management deci
sions, advising and consulting
with tenants and inspecting the
crops could not be counted in
establishing that the landlord
“materially participated’’ in the
farming operation.
Formerly, a farm landlord who
took no personal interest in the j
farming operation as a whole 1
could not report his net farm pro
fit for social security purposes,
even though he might have furn
ished a substantial portion of the
farming equipment and expenses
of producing' the crops or live
stock.
Farm landlords whose applica
tions for social security payments
have been denied in the past
should again see their local So
cial Security Administration Dis
trict Office if they have any
questions regarding this new pro
vision.
USDA Egg Grade
Denotes Quality
When buying eggs, experienced
fpodshoppers look for the IJ. S.
Grade shield on the carton. They
know that the grade shown o n
the carton denotes the quality
of the eggs.
The Agriculaurtl Marketing
Service of the U. S. Department
of Agriculture reminds consumers
that the grades—U. S. Grade AA,
A, B, and C—indicate quality
only, not size. There are eggs of
every size in every grade.
For example, Grade A eggs
have the same quality whether
they are large, medium, or small
eggs—'the only difference is
weight. Grade A eggs are not
necessarily large; large eggs are
not necessarily Grade A.
U. S. Grade AA, or Fresh
Fancy, eggs have a thick, high
white and a firm high yolk. They
are of top quality—-the best eggs
homemakers can buy for frying,
poaching, or cooking' in the shell.
U. S. Grade A eggs also are
excellent as table eggs. Their
Whites are just a little thinner,
and their yolks just a little less
firm than U. S. Grade AA eggs.
U. S. Grade B eggs are per
fectly satisfactory for most other
uses, such as baking and general
cooking. When they are broken
out, the whites of these eggs
spread wide an dthe yolks are
rather flat and enlarged.
