Colorful Mayday Celebration
Held At Southport High School
A large crowd of parents and
interested spectators gathered on
Friday afternoon to enjoy a beau
tiful May Day program presented
by the students of the Southport
School.
Seating arrangements were
made in front of the building
overlooking the beautifully dec
orated lawn and entrance stoop
and steps, ail giving the effect of
an amphitheatre. The fences en
circling the lawn were intertwin
ed with greenery and artificial
multi-colored carnations. The
walks on each side of the steps
were marked with arches, match
ing the fences.
The entrance steps and stoop
were the beautiful setting for the
May Queen and her court. Trees
and ferns, enhanced with two
large white baskets of white and
yellow summer flowers formed
the background for the enthroned
queen and her attendants, seated
around her on the white-covered
steps.
Sally Ward, the queen, dressed
I in white and carrying a nosegay
| of white roses accented with car
nations and gladioli buds, looked
lovely as she was . crowned by
Suzan Key, maid-of-honor, who
wore a blue silk chiffon gown
complemented with a picture hat
and an arm bouquet of gladioli
and roses.
The other attendants wore
beautiful gowns in the various
pastel colors with matching pic
ture hats and carried arm bou
I quets of gladioli and roses.

For Judge of Recorder's Court
I believe that one of the most progressive
steps we can take to insure greater highway safe
ty in Brunswick county is to establish a Drivers’
Clinic where persons convicted of traffic violations
can attend regular classes over a period of several
months.
I think this will be especially effective with
youthful violators, and it will help correct their
troubles before it becomes a dangerous habit. I
know there is such a clinic now going on in New
Hanover county, and if nominated and elected I
plan to work with the State Highway Patroi to see
if we cannot do the same thing in Brunswick.
