Racing Picture Coming To Amuzu Theatre This Weekend Stock car racing is now the fastest growing sport in Amer- | ica. The Wall Street Journal has credited stock car racing as the fourth largest and by this, it is \ ahead of organized baseball. The above scene is from the j motion picture “Thunder In Car- j olina.” This picture was actual- { ly filmed in North and South Carolina. Most of it takes place j in and around Darlington, where ; over 100.000 screaming and cheering fans hurry every Labor Day. They come to see the fam ous “Southern 500” or sometime called the “World Series of Stock Car Racing." This scene shows two members of the pit crew performing their amazingly quick repair. Few people know how stock car racing actually started. The “Moonshiners" are credited with starting it. The illegal whiskey had to be delivered to the distrib uting points and the moonshine producers were being caught by the revenue agents. The boys that drove the cars ~ decided to soup them up. Each one was proud of his own car and its speed. These men became sallied drivers, with one thing leading to another. Be fore long they were holding small races among themselves and this was the birth of stofck dir rac ing! Many stock car race pictures show things that would never ac THANK YOU I appreciate the vote and support that came from my friends in every part of the county in the Second Primary Election Saturday, and even though I was not the successful candidate, I am grdteful. Marie Brown was the leading scorer on Watson's team with a tually happen in a real race. The producers of “Thunder In Caro lina” made a special effort to make their picture seem possible in every way that they could. It was filmed in color, which adds much to a picture. , The most Well-known actor in the picture is Rory Calhoun, who is mostly known as a western actor but, he turns in a good performance as a race car driver. This Is a good race picture even if it had been made in Russia or China, but the fact that it was made so close to our own county places it on the must list.
