Army Pvt. Harold F. Ellis, 24,
son of Mrs. Anna B. Williams,
Leland, recently completed eight
weeks of military police training
at The Provost Marshal General
School Fort Gordon, Ga. Ellis
was instructed in such subjects
as civil and military law, traffic
control, map reading, prisoner-of
war control and self defense. He
entered the Army last January
and completed basic training at
Fort Knox, Ky. Ellis is a 1955
graduate of Williston High
School, Wilmington, a 1959 grad
uate of Fayetteville State Teach
ers College and received his mas
ter’s degree from Indiana Uni
versity in Bloomington. He is a
member of Omega Psi Phi fra
ternity.

COMMUNITY

Members of the Cedar Grove
Community Development Club
have been inspired by guest
speakers in their regular meet
ings, which were presided by the
president, Hobson Bryant. Our
guest speaker in April was Coun
ty Agent A. S. Knowles. His
topic for discussion was, “Home
Beautification.”
The speaker in May was W. H.
D. Flowers who is the pastor of
the Cedar Grove Missionary Bap
tist Church. His topic for dis
cussion was, “Wholesome Recrea
tion for the Youth.” We again
had Rev. Flowers in June for our
guest speaker. For his topic he
chose "Negro Progress.” Every
one highly enjoyed these topics.
June also ended our Baby Con
test which the club sponsored to
raise funds for the Community
Center. The winners were as fol
lows : Baby Bryant, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Wilber Bryant won first
prize in the amount of $26.40.
Baby Fullwood won second prize
in the amount of $23.71. He is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cordis
Fullwood. Mr. and Mrs. Dolphus
Bryant won their prize in the
amount of $18.67. P. E. Dubar,
Sr., local Vocational Agricultural
teacher, is advisor.
