Cars Being Driven With Boat Trailers Pose Mew Problems With thousands of North Caro linians winding up in Brunswick County every weekend this sum mer, the tricky art of maneuver ing a boat trailer in heavy traf fic calls for expert dry land seamanship, cautions the N. C. State Motor Club. Ignorance of the basic rules for transporting a boat, can quickly develop into a traffic, hazard with a first-class accident potential, warns Thomas B. (2) When stopping, give your self plenty of space. Get the feel of the additional distance required to stop because of the boat trail er, and check any tendency for the unit to '“snake” or whip when the brakes are applied. If the trailer has brakes, apply them first and then alternate between trailer and car. 13) Trailer wheels will usually track inside those of the car on sharp turns. The variation de pends on the size of the trailer and length of the tongue. When making right-angle turns, travel several feet from the curb, then straight for the intersection be fore making the pullover. Putting your rig through a few practice sharp-turn gyrations and studying the tire marks to ascertain the safe turning arc will prove most helpful. (4) Practice is the key to suc cessful control of the backing-up maneuver. Go slowly. Learn not tc oversteer, for you can't recover if you go too far. Pull up a few feet as soon as you see the trailer moving in the wrong direction and corr ect the backing up. Back ing a trailer into a spot takes I practice, and the following steps I may be helpful to the novice: (at Have the car and trailer in a straight line with the area you intend to enter. (b) Place your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel and turn t he wheel in the direction you want the back end of the trailer to go. In other words, if you want the trailer to go right, steer left. Gore Is Buried On Monday JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Thom as C. Gore, 54. formerly of Shal lotte, N. C., died here July 13 following a heart attack. He was born in Shallotte, the son of the late Willie and Annie White Gore, but had lived in Jacksonville the past 17 years. Final rites were held from the chapel of Giddens Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Monday, July 16.
