Visitors Let Down With One Hit
By Bobby McKeithan Tuesday Nite
Bobby McKeithan weaved a lit
tle baseball magie in the rain at
Taylor Field Tuesday night as he
tossed a one-hitter at the Ran
som-Township team, allowing only
one enemy runner to cross the
plate while striking out nine and
giving up four free passes. Ran
som's only run came in the fourth
inning when, with one out, Dick
Creech drew a base on balls and
was tripled home on a long blast
over the centerfielder’s head by
Richard Russell. *

the bottom of the fifth inning
when Gehrig Spencer and Jerry
Wayne Spencer laid out back to
back singles into left-center field.
Both runners were advanced on
a nice bunt by McKeithan. Foxy
Howard followed with the first of
his two doubles for the night to
bring in both base runners. How
ard went to third on an infield
out by Jerry Spencer and scored
on a single by Paul Cochran.
In the sixth inning Gene Russ
and Ben Blake led off with suc
cessive singles. G. Spencer went
down on strikes but Jerry Wayne
Spencer followed with a single to
load the bases. McKeithan iced
his own cake with a single into
center field, bringing Russ and
Blake across the plate. Howard
rapped hi's second double into
right field to score Spencer and
McKeithan and run his RBI total
to four for the evening.
With a. full head of steam up,
the Sails continued their attack
on the Ransom pitching with two
more runs in the seventh. A sin
gle by John Carr Davis and a
walk to Rip Howard put men on
base and Jerry Wayne Spencer
cleared the paths with a double
past the left fielder.
Cochran, with three singles for
five trips to the plate, Jerry
Wayne Spencer, with two singles
and a double for four times at
bat, and Foxy Howard with two
doubles for four trips to the bat
ters box, provided the power at
the plate for the Sails. McKeith
an notched his sixth win in eight
starting assignments and ran his
strikeout total .to 68 in league
competition.

All - Star Game
Draws Well Here
The East All-Stars, composed
of players from Seagate, Leland,
Shallotte and Riegel, defeated the
West team made up of players
from Southport, Ransom, Ogden
and Hampstead by a score of 12
to 7 last Thursday night at Tay
lor Field in Southport. The game,
exciting and well-played through
out, was enjoyed by the largest
crowd ever to witness a baseball
game on the local field.
League officials expressed their
pleasure at the manner in which
the game was conducted and the
plans that had been laid by the
Southport Boosters Club in spon
soring this years game. Several
of the visiting managers said
that they hope the game will be
played here again next year and
that they will favor this at the
organizational meeting of the
Cape Fear League next spring.
Southport players showed up
well in the All-Star game. There
were several last minute switches
in the All-Star selections for the
Sails, who were represented by
Foxy Howard at second base,
Bobby McKeithan in left field,
Jerry Spencer in right field, and
Wayne Ludlum on the mound.
Ludlum turned in the best
pitching performance of the eve
ning, giving up only one single

AFTER GOD’S
OWN HEART
! David was described by the Prophet
Samuel, as a man after God's own
heart. (1st. Sam. 13:14) This does
not mean that David's life was com
I pletely free of sin. When David was
guilty of a sin he did not deny it.
Instead he promptly confessed his sin
and accepted God’s punishment.
| David's repentance was sincere and
permanent. He was faithful as a
king in ruling God's people. God
requires these virtues from his peo
ple today.
