Hello there. Just this day of vacation and then school begins. Everywhere the children are excited and ready to go. New pencils, books, shoes, dresses and shining faces are ready to greet the new school marm for another year of book learning to help become a better educated citizen of tomor row. And it doesn’t take long for just a little child to grow up into a nice young lady or gentle man. Then you wonder where the years have gone. I just received a call from the Holden Beach Fishing Pier and the flounder fishing is great to day. This could be the case along the entire Brunswick coastline. A nice delicious baked flounder would go great at the end of a long, hot day—Brunswick floun der! Benny Hewett, U. S. Army, and Mai Kirby, USAF, are home on leave for a fewdays. Benny is the son of Mr. and Mrs. I. Kilmer Hewett of Supply. Mai is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Kirby of Sup ply. I received many calls about the "Chicken Caccatorie” ask ing me did I try this recipe? Yes, 1 did, and it is delicious. I have supplied iuiet a few of the neighbors with the recipe, and I promise to print it again some time in the near future. Any recipe that goes in Party Line, I have used again and again to see if it really is a good one. And since I like to try new reci pes, why not send me your favo rite? J. Bartley Clemmons, Bartley P. Potter and Mrs. Jack Lovett from Supply are patients in Dosh er Memorial Hospital. Our deepest sympathy is ex tended to the family of Mrs. Glennie Clemmons of Southport. Miss Colleen Veronica Hoar, August bride-elect, was feted with a miscellaneous shower Fri day night at the home of Mrs. Mary C. Clemmons of Supply. ' Mrs. Clemmons and Mrs. Docia Clemmons were co-hostesses. Green and white was the color motif used in the table setting. A beautiful arrangement of white carnations centered the refresh ment table. After games were played and the bride-elect open ed her lovely gifts, refreshments of bridal cake, lime punch, nuts, and mints were served to the following guests: Mesdames Lillie Hewett, War die Lancaster (mother of the bride-groom), Juanita Smith, Lou Ellen White, Woddie Holden, Alene Hewett, Janice Hewett, Velma Robinson, Elaine Sellers, Berlyn Lancaster, Charlotte Hewett, Jeanette Galloway, Gladys Hoar (mother of the bride elect)- Misses Julie Clemmons, Hulaine Clemmons, Diane Clem mons, Tina Hewett, W. P. Hew ett and yours truly. Quite a few times recently I’ve noticed people of the area being nominated to “The Most Cheer ful Club”. I’d like to add Mrs. Elouise Thompkins (Weezie), AMUZU SOUTHPORT, N. O FRI. - SAT. “Billy The Kid vs. Dracula” AND “Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter” Both In Color Sun.- Mon. - Tue. No matter how many times you enter the store, Weezie smiles and gives you a word of cheer to brighten your day. I have often heard the tourists commenting on her nice smile, friendly manners, and good ole southern hospitality. Just a friendly word may lighten the stranger’s burden. So, hats off to you, Weezie! The Brunswick County As sociation for the Mentally Re tarded is progressing toward a class for this school season if the final approval is given by the State Board of Education. The class, if held, will be at the National Guard Armory in Shal lotte. A fund raising campaign is now under way throughout the area with a goal of $2,000 to aid the nine-twelve students for the fall classes. Mrs. Eli Kravitz, association president, is heading the campaign. When you see a school bus along the road, don’t forget to drive carefully. Or when you see children waiting for that school bus, pass with care. There is nothing more precious than the life of a child. Modern Teaching Aids Help 4-H Girls In Learning To Sew Special attention is given to teaching beginners from 9 to 11 years old. Mothers are urged to observe the progress made by their young duaghters in the club project so that they will confi dently permit them to use the precious sewing machine. More experienced 4-H members serve as junior leaders and help younger members learn the basic steps in using a sewing machine at home. “Sewing requires far more than manual dexterity; it demands technical knowledge and disci pline to progress step by step toward a goal,” states the leaders manual. It is this knowledge and disci pline, points out Miss Dean, that has enabled thousands of 4-H girls to make and model prize - winning ensembles and to help re furnish their homes with new curtains, draperies, slip covers, pillows and other decorator items. Miss Dean along with special ists from the F ederal Extension Service and Singer collaborated on the manual. Just about every 4-H girl at some timer or another has tried her hand at sewing, observed Miss Mary Ann Dean, home economist for the National 4-H Service Committee. And in the process a sewing machine has been used. “The difference between turn ing out a garment with ease or with difficulty”, said Miss Dean, "is often the difference between knowing and not knowing how to use the sewing machine.” New manuals explaining Your Sewing Machine have just been published by The Singer Company for 4-H clothing leaders and members. For the last 12 years, Singer has sponsored the Nation al 4-H clothing leader course on proper use of the sewing machine. STING, STING, STING The honeybee can sting only once, and usually dies within a few minutes after stinging. How ever, World Book Encyclopedia points out, the bumblebee can sting again and again—and so can its relatives, the wasp, the hornet, and the yellow jacket. quately the needs of future generations? Or, are we be coming too complacent in this age of affluence and power? I have written, many times, concerning the importance of long-range planning to meet the needs of our expanding popula tion by conservation of our natural resources, rural and tur ban planning and development and the essentiality of protect ing our food supply. I have recently read a very penetrating article written by Mr. Anthony E. Cascino, vice president of Agricultural Pro ducts Marketing Group, Inter national Minerals and Chemical Corporation. I am passing along to you some of his facts and figures because I feel they will be of interest. "We are talking about peo ple, masses of people, and about food.” The world population today is in excess of three bil lion people and is increasing. Since the beginning of time, the first billion population mark was not reached until 1850. But it took only80years(1930)forthe world population to reach the two billion mark. The three billion mark was reached in 1960, and now we are in the midst ofbuild ing up to the fourth billion, ex pected to be reached by 1975. “Can you comprehend this?” In the short span of 15 years the population will expand by num bers that previously took ages. The end is not in sight, as Mr. Cascino predicts the fifth billion in 12 years. Today, with the world popula tion slightly over the three bil lion mark, we find over half of the people in the world suffer from hunger or malnutrition. We will need to produce food for a population one-third larger in the next 15 years. We must double food production by the end of this century. “The fusion of people and food is the most powerful force in the world today, and we had better believe this as a people and as a nation.” SALE!
