of drugs by servicemen is worse than earlier indicated. Granted that many ser vicemen do not use drugs, some in Southeastest Asia become victims because they are easily obtained. Get them Hello there! We’re back from Raleigh and enjoyed die trip Im mensely. We came back from Whiteville with the folks from die State Port Pilot When we arrived in Shallotte I had forgotten about the detour, so we took them by way of Red Bug, almost to Shell Point, and then on home. If you don’t know where you’re going, you’d just better not begin on those winding roads. But it didn’t take too long. While in Whiteville, we had a barbecue sandwich at Joe’s Barbecue. This is some of the best home-made barbecue you would want. Mrs. Joe Hyatt gave us a Crimson Glory Triple Rose. It’s magnificent. It’s just beautiful in front of the restaurant. I would just like to have a garden of those. Did you have a great Mother’s Day? How did you share your mother with others? Or do you share with others? Here’s a few words from Jennette Crandall that I would like to share with you: It’s funny how a mother’s kiss Can soothe the hardest aches. I wonder if I’ll ever know The many things it takes To keep a daughter happy. I wonder if I’U ever be A girl’s best friend, the way My mother is to me. And then, I wonder, if I talked all night, If I could ever say just right What mothers mean to girls. Dear Mom, perhaps you know this day My heart gives you your dues. Though I can wear your aprons now I doubt I’ll EVER fill your shoes. And to mother, we say God bless you always. Let’s give our mothers the flowers while they live. Let’s cherish them while we can and then when they’re gone we will have only pleasant memories. The “detour” to Holden Beach from Shallotte, will soon be completed, thank goodness, and I know us working folks will be more than glad. This detouring is for the birds! Mrs. Bonnie Evans, little Chrystal, Jackie and Suzanne, Mrs. Sandra Hewett and little Handy, and Mrs. Lynn Wolf and little Erica were visiting Mrs. Lee Prevatte of Elizabethtown recently. Mrs. Goldalane Bellamy, Mrs. Pauline Varaam and Mrs. Doris Danford each entertained a number of guests at Tupperware parties last week. Mrs. Linda Combs and little Billy are visiting the Combs family in the moun tains for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Evans are back from Florida for the summer. Oneal and Chancie Hewett, Luree and Ish Chadwick and Vance Hewett were having Sunday dinner together this past week. Norman and Faye McKinney of Holden Beach were dining in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Hewett, Little Robert D. and Wendy were enjoying an outdoors picnic in Wilmington Sunday. Rob and Janice Hewett have moved in their lovely new home. The Rodney Grays have a lovely mobile home now. Having Sunday dinner with Mrs. Ethel Hewett were Mrs. Darnella Evans and children, Richard, Rhonda, Kathy, Deedee, and Shelly; Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Gray, Mrs. Donnie McCall and Carolyn, James C. Hewett. And having Sunday dinner with Mrs. Mary Sellers were Martha and little Jamie. Mrs. Jesse Williams had most of her children home with her for Mother’s Day. To make very inexpensive curtains for the bedrooms, buy an extra sheet or two with the pretty borders to match, and make lovely drapes. The bottom can be scalloped or edged with pretty trim. This hint comes from our Aunt Mildred Potter. She has loads of money-saving ideas, and we just love to visit her and hear them. She also has a GREEN thumb and grows the most beautiful flowers in Brun swick. She has many flower friends all over the world who exchange flowers and cut tings with her. What a wonderful hobby! Today we read in a daily newspaper that ap proximately 15,000 troops are coming back soon to the U.L. addicted to heroin. The ef fects have been seen in crime, suicide, and degradation of some unable to kick the habit when they return home. Some come home and, without money, begin rob bing, killing and any other crime that will give them the money to buy the drugs. Use Mr. and Mrs. David Whitehurst Watson of Wrightsville Beach announce the engagement of their daughter, Kathryn Manson, to Mr. Jerry Watts Roberson of Charlotte. Miss Watson is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and is currently enrolled in graduate school there. She teaches language arts and social studies at Coulwood Junior High in Charlotte. Mr. Roberson is a sales representative for The Ervin Company. He attended Campbell College and Atlantic Christian College. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter W. Roberson of Wilson. The wedding will take place on June 20 at 3 o’clock at Wright sville United Methodist Church. Norman M. Hornstein, M.D. Announces the re-opening of his office at 114 Howe Street, Southport, N.C.
