County Schools Short On Room A recent survey released by the Department of Public Instruction reveals that enrollment in North Carolina schools during the 1970-71 school year decreased over the previous year 6,888 students. While the number of students decreased, the number of teachers, supervisors, and principals increased by 241, bringing the total professional personnel in the state to 54,648. The annual fall survey contains the latest figures concerning public school personnel and facilities. The Brunswick County school unit had a total student enrollment of 6,152 with 261 professional personnel working with them. Of the teachers in the unit, 33, or 12.6 percent, had less than a class “A” certificate and 12, or 4.6 percent, were teaching out of their certificate fi-.ld. The survey also reveals that although 1,200 new classrooms across the state were made available for use during the 1970-71 year, 7,035 are still needed to take care of excess enrollment. Brunswick schools had 24 new classrooms available at the beginning of the school year, but need 26 to take care of excess enrollment.
