If not, you missed a real treat. Over 60 horses com peted for ribbons in 24 classes, with exhibitors from as far away as Loris, S.C., and Whiteville, although most were from our area. “Junior” Stewart was our judge, with Mrs. Victor Sullivan at the announcer’s mike. In the opening ceremony Miss N.C. Fourth of July, Mary Tomlinson of South port, cut the ribbon to -of ficially open Midway Arena, with the Rev. William Deneke of St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church offering the dedicatory prayer. The National Anthem followed the grand entry of Brunswick Saddle Club members. The arena was in beautiful shape, with fresh white fence rails and sandy footing. The Western events were very accurately timed by the new digital readout timer operated by John Greene, who also designed the P.A. system. The classes began at 1:30 and continued until dark. Good food and drinks were in abundance at the concession stand, and the favorite drink varied from icy cola in the warm mid-afternoon to hot chocolate as dusk brought a chill to the air. The whole show was a big success, and we are grateful to the many people who helped in operating the show and by sponsoring classes. We look forward to even larger crowds at our next show on Saturday, May 4, at -11 o’clock.
