PUBLIC HEARING
Take notice that a public hearing shall be held on December 14,1992 at 7:00
p.m. in the Yaupon Beach Town Hall to hear public comment regarding the
imposition of a room occupancy tax for the Town of Yaupon Beach, said tax to
be used for tourism development. Pursuant to House Bill 1367, the Board of
Commissioners of the Town of Yaupon Beach may levy a room occupancy tax
of three percent (3%) of the gross receipts derived from the rental of accomo
dations within the town that are subject to sales tax imposed by the State under
G.S. 105-164.4 (a)(3) and from tthe rental of private residences and cottages
within the town that are exempt from the sales tax imposed under G.S. 105-164.4
(a)(3) solely because they are rented for less than fifteen days. Penalties shall be
imposed if individuals do not comply with the tax reporting. A copy of the bill
is on file in the office of the Town Clerk for review.

Festival's silent auction
draws plenty of attention
For all those people who went to
an auction and wound up buying
something they didn’t want because
they inadvertently moved and the
auctioneer called "sold", the 1992
Christmas-By-the-Sea Festival silent
auction is just want Santa ordered.
The auction will get underway at
10 a.m. Saturday, December 5, at
Middleton Park in Long Beach.
As the name of the event indicates,
there will be no verbal bidding.
Each item will have a bidding sheet
beside it on yhich participants will
place their bids. Items of substance
will have a minimum bid. Bidding
will close at 11:45 p.m.

Pursuant to G.S. 143-129, sealed bids endorsed Waterfront Boardwalk and
Gazebo to be furnished to the City of Southport, North Carolina, will be received

‘See What Santa Sees’
program benefits needy
The Brunswick County Airport is offering "See What Santa Sees" flights
or a fee of $15 to benefit needy children and families throughout the
:ounty.
The airport is working with the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Com
nerce and the Brunswick County Department of Social Services to come
ip with a list of families who need help with money or help paying bills
luring the holidays.
All proceeds from the flights, except the cost of gas, will be donated, said
lirport manager Charles Best.
The flight will allow children to see what Santa will see as he flies over
heir homes, Best said. And all children will be awarded an official "See
iVhat Santa Sees" flight certificate.
Miss Petite North Carolina Lisa Young will be at the airport this
veekend and every weekend until Christmas, and will be available to go
[long on the flights. Young was the 1991 Miss Brunswick County, and will
>e competing in a national pageant this spring. She is also a licensed pilot,
aid Best.
There will be a poster contest held in conjunction with the flights, and
>rizes will be donated by local businesses. The designers of the top three
rasters will receive cash or merchandise. About $200 worth of prizes have
ilready been contributed, Best indicated.
Participants can pick up poster paper at the airport, design a poster with
he "See What Santa Sees" theme, and then display the poster in participa
ing businesses. Winners will be selected at the airport on Saturday, De
:ember 19.

A pre-parade Christmas tree decorating party for the community
