Music teacher Harton
is in ‘Supply Spotlight’
Annette Harton, music educator at
Supply Elementary School, is in the
"Supply Spotlight" this month.
She was nominated for her work
helping classes with PTA presenta
tions. Although she said she is "just
doing what I’m supposed to do," she
sees her role at Supply as helping
make sure her art is well
represented.
Harton is a native of Shelby and
holds a bachelor of music degree
from Mars Hill College. She resides
in Wilmington with her husband,
Herb, and three-year-old daughter,
Sophie.
‘One-day greenhouse’
nurtures BCC project
A 20-by- 100-foot greenhouse will ,
be assembled in one day on-site at
Brunswick Community College’s i
main campus Thursday, December

The "one-day greenhouse" project i
is a cooperative effort of Sampson
Community College and Brunswick
Community College. About ten stu
dents from Sampson Community
College’s horticulture technology
program, their instructors and
Brunswick Community College
physical plant employees will erect
the greenhouse superstructure that
day.
Brunswick Community College
has cleared and prepared the site ad
jacent to the warehouse and behind
the Brunswick Interagency Program
building. Maintenance workers at
BCC have readied for the project
day by preparing the foundation and
cutting, sizing and drilling recep
tacle pipes, said director of physical
plant Curtis Workman. The supplies
for the project were purchased by
BCC.
Also, 130 sections of one-inch,
electro-mechanical tubing were
formed to specifications in the
DARE classes

After 17 weeks in the Brunswick
County Drug Abuse Resistance Ed
ucation (DARE) program, fifth
graders at Southport Elementary,
Bolivia Elementary and Leland
Middle schools will graduate.
Ceremonies are scheduled for next
week at each school.
Handy Gunter, North Carolina
State Bureau of Investigation South
eastern DARE coordinator, will be
the guest speaker at 7 p.m. Monday,
December 14, at Southport
Elementary.
Terry Johnson, North Carolina
SBI state DARE coordinator, will
speak at the Bolivia Elementary
ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. Tues
day, December 15.
The director of the North Carolina
SBI, Charles Dunn, will be the guest
speaker at the Leland Middle School
ceremony at 7 p.m. Wednesday, De
cember 16.

Brunswick County Sheriffs Depart
ment is coordinator of the Bruns
wick County DARE program.
‘Supply Spotlight’
Mrs. Jean Gillette, a volunteer,
substitute teacher and bus driver and
the volunteer coordinator for Supply
Elementary School, is in the "Supp
ly Spotlight" for November.
Mrs. Gillette, who has three chil
dren at Supply Elementary, says she
has always had "a need to see that
children are given positive experi
ences."

BCC nursing class
reaches 100 percent
The 1992 practical nursing class of
Brunswick Community College has
posted a 100-percent pass rate on
the National Council Licensing
Exam for Practical Nurses
(NCLEX-PN), which they took in
October.
According to Brunswick Com
munity College director of nursing
Connie Milliken, "Since our practi
cal nursing program’s first graduat
ing class of 1983, all graduates who
chose to retest, if they did not pass
their first writing of the state board
exam, have passed, which presently
gives Brunswick Community Col
lege a 100-percent pass rate."

Christmas concert
The music department of South
Brunswick High School will present
its Christmas concert Thursday, De
cember 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the
school gymnasium.
Featured will be the band directed
by Buddy Gudger and the chorus
directed by Charles E. Aldrich. Ad
mission is free and the public is in
vited to attend.
Bolivia Elementary second graders and teachers decorated the
Bolivia UCB "Tree of Hope" last week with 100 ornaments they made
for the project. Each ornament has the first name, age and sex of a
needy child or elderly person, and that person’s wish list for gifts from
Santa. Bank customers will now pick the ornaments off the tree and
purchase gifts for the child or elderly person of their choice, who other
wise may not have any gifts at all.
