SENIOR ACTIVITIES Program for adult scholars There are just a few days left to register for the Adult Scholars Leader ship Program sponsored by the University of North Carolina at Wilming ton Division for Public Service and Extended Education. Limited to 35 participants, the program is designed to bring older gHnitc together with community experts to learn more about issues, problems, creative possibilities and plans of the region. The deadline for applications is Friday, December 18. Sessions will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. February 4, 11, 18 and 25, March 4, 11 and 18, and from 7 to 9 p.m. March 23. They will cover his tory and government, regional growth and development, health, the depart ment of aging, human relations, education, the arts, criminal justice and the media. The cost is $175 and includes a graduation reception, program and resource materials, speaker honoraria, continental breakfasts, refreshments and lunches. Day trip to state capital Monday, December 21, is the registration and payment deadline for senior day at the state capital, scheduled for Thursday, January 7. The Raleigh trip will include stops at the legislative building, the state capitol, the art museum and the arboretum.' The $10 fee covers the cost of transportation. Exercise classes scheduled Exercise classes for seniors are sponsored by the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department. Slow rhythmic exercise classes are conducted at 10 a.m. on Mondays at the Town Creek Township District Park building. Exfercises work on lim bering joints and toning muscles. Mature movement is offered at 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Long Beach Recreation Center and at the Lockwood Folly Township Dis trict Park community center. Classes are also held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Southport Community Building. January cruise to Bahamas A Disney/Bahamas cruise for seniors is being planned by the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department The trip, scheduled for January 18-25, includes hotel accommodations, admission to the Walt Disney World Epcot Center, a cruise to Nassau and meals. The cost is $648 per person based on double occupancy. Checks can be made payable to Great American Vacations and mailed to the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department, P. O. Box 249 Bolivia, NC 28422. Trips planned for February Two trips are planned for seniors early next year by the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department. Tryon Palace in New Bern is the destination on February 4. The cost is $20 and includes transportation, admission to Tryon Palace, the John Wright $tanly and Dixon-Stevenson houses, The Gardens and the New Bern Academy. Meals are not included. Registration deadline is January A four-day trip is planned to Chattanooga, Tenn., February 15-18. The cost is $180 a person and includes transportation, hotel accommodations, continental breakfast and admission to Ruby Falls, the Confederama, the Houston Antique Museum, Point Park, Rock City Gardens, a dinner cruise, Chickamauga Battlefield, Warehouse Row, Tennessee Aquarium, dinner at Choo Choo and a ride on the Tennessee Valley Railroad. For information call Southport Visitor Center 457-7927 Miniature house may build funds for needy As a fund-raising project to benefit needy children in this area, the Brunswick County Home Builders Association has donated a miniature house to Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 939 and the Bruns wick County Airport to auction. All proceeds will be donated to local chil dren who need food, clothes and toys for the holidays. The auction is being held in conjunction with the "See What Santa Sees" flights. For a fee of $15, a pilot will take a child aloft to see what Santa will see as he flies over the child’s house. All of the proceeds from these flights will be donated to needy children. The miniature house will be auctioned at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 20, at the Brunswick County Airport. Airport commissioners say they hope to generate bids of up to $300. The playhouse will be delivered to the highest bidder by December 25. Members of the public are invited to stop by the airport and see the mini ature house.
