Six indicted in LSD mailing
Six people were indicted last week for their alleged involvement in a
drug deal that sent LSD by mail to a Leland home.
Detectives confiscated 35 doses of LSD, or lysergic acid
diethylamide, a once-popular hallucinogen in the 1960s that has "wt*. a
recent comeback especially among college students.
An informant told narcotics officers a mail shipment of the drug was
expected at a home in Jennifer Court on May 5.
An arranged delivery of an envelope that contained a sheet of paper
on which the liquid LSD had been dropped was allegedly seized. A
search also found 14 marijuana seedlings planted in the ground and in
flower pots.
LSD is often blotted onto paper to resemble pictures and then placed
in the mouth by the drug user to obtain temporary hallucinations.
A Brunswick County Grand Jury indicted four Leland residents and
two men from Minneapolis, Minn., on charges. They are:
•Jeff Asplund, 19, of Minneapolis; possession with intent to sell and
deliver LSD, sale and delivery of LSD.
•Lawrence Dudley, 45, of 9262 Jennifer Court, Leland; maintaining
a dwelling to keep and sell a controlled substance, manufacturing and
creating marijuana.
•Joseph Peter Grandolfo, 37, of 9262 Jennifer Court; possession of a
controlled substance, manufacturing and creating a controlled sub
stance.
•Jeff Miller of Minneapolis; possession with intent to sell and deliver
LSD, sale and delivery of LSD.
•Lovinna Ann Miller of 9262 Jennifer Court; manufacturing and
creating marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver LSD.
•Robert Allen Miller, 17, of 9700 Sturgeon Drive, Leland; posses
sion of a controlled substance, manufacturing and creating a controlled
substance.
Others indicted by the grand jury on charges last week were;
•Lloyd Lee Bolt, 26, of Leland; two counts breaking and entering
and larceny, possession of stolen goods. Bolt is accused of breaking
into a Winnabow home on May 4 and a home in Old Forest Estates,
Leland, on November 19, 1992. A stove and refrigerator valued at
$1,600 were taken from one home.
•Lamont Alonzo Burst, 18, of 270 Goodland Road, Leland; posses
sion with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.
•Clinton Lindell Frink, 33, of 319 North Rhett Street, Southport; two
counts conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine.
•Curtis Gerald Frink, 22, of 319 North Rhett Street, Southport; two
counts possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, two counts
sale and delivery of cocaine.
•W. Niguel Lovett, 21, and Frantz Tramel Mercer, 26, both of 1722
R. E. Gore Drive, Supply, and Terrance Antwan Williams, 16, of Supp
ly; armed robbery. They are accused of using a .38-caliber handgun to
rob a clerk at Hewett’s Store of $3.25 on March 31.
Southport man pleads guilty
to reduced charge in robbery
A Southport man accused of rob
bing a convenience store cleric with
a knife pleaded guilty in Brunswick
County Superior Court last week to
common law robbery.
Lewis Qaybome Wingfield, 58, of
Brunswick Village Apartments, had
been charged with armed robbery.
In an agreement with the district
attorney’s office, Wingfield avoided
a trial and pleaded guilty to a lesser
charge. He received a suspended
prison sentence along with a 30-day
active jail term.

weapon carries a mandatory mini
mum of 14 years in prison while
common law robbery carries a maxi
mum of ten and a minimum of three
years in prison.
Judge Dexter Brooks issued a five
year suspended sentence and placed
Wingfield on supervised probation,
the first six months on intensive
probation. He was also ordered to
spend 30 days in the Brunswick
County jail.
He was ordered not to possess,
consume or have any illegal drugs,
submit to searches and tests, enroll
in an adult literacy course for read
ing and writing, to follow recom
mended assessment and counseling
and to not go on the premises of the
E-Z Way Grocery on North Howe
Street
He was also ordered not to com
municate with the clerk or possess
any knife or other deadly weapon.
Wingfield was charged with tak
ing $155 in cash from the store
while threatening the cleik with a
knife.

heard by judge Brooks last week:
•Johnny Cobb, 45, of Rt 1, Box
57, Leland; probation violation, con
tinue on probation, comply with any
payment of money.
•Ronnie Harold Jones Jr., 17, of
Rt 5, Box 119, Leland; admits
probation violation, probation
revoked, not benefit as committed
youthful offender.
•Allen Finer, 41, of Rt 5, Box 22,
Leland; pleaded guilty to two counts
sale and delivery of cocaine,
maintaining a motor vehicle to keep
drugs, possession of cocaine;

•Debra Robbins, 35, of Rt. 1, Box
55, Ballard’s Mobile Home Park,
Leland; pleaded guilty to three
counts trafficking cocaine, NCDOC
12 years, DART program; pleaded
guilty to three counts possession
with intent to sell and deliver
cocaine, three counts sale and
delivery of cocaine, prayer for judg
ment continued term to term until
scheduled for sentencing by the dis
trict attorney.
