Southport percentage highest All county ABC stores report profits for year By Terry Pope County Editor Brunswick County’s two Alco holic Beverage Control stores and the nine ABC stores operated by municipalities all reported profits for the 1995-96 fiscal year that ended last June 30. Southport's ABC store reported a profit percentage of 10.37 percent before distributions and leads the list of 11 stores locally. Brunswick County’s two stores reported a prof it percentage of 4.85 percent, according to figures compiled by the North Carolina ABC Board. The Town of Navassa opened its ABC store on January 24, 1996, and figures on its operations were not available in this report. Profits from ABC sales are distrib uted annually to local law enforce ment, for alcohol education and research and to counties or munici palities. The average profit percent to sales for ABC stores with mixed beverage sales in the state was 10.03 percent, while the average percent age for ABC stores without mixed beverage sales was 5.10 percent. Statewide, liquor sales increased 1.58 percent last year and mixed beverage sales were up 6.55 per cent. For the fiscal year, sales totaled $363.6 million across the state compared to $355.7 million the previous year, an increase of $7.9 million in sales. The number of regular bottles sold statewide actually decreased by 1.7 percent for the period, but mixed beverage bottles were up 5.9 per cent. The number of mini-bottles sold continues to climb steadily, this past year up 15.2 percent as 8.5 mil lion of the single-serve bottles were sold in the state’s 395 stores.
