Caswell Beach
•A Danville, VA, man Sunday reported someone cut two lines securing his fish net
to the beach. The lines, set in the 100 block of Caswell Beach Road, apparently were
cut between 7:30 a.m. and noon Saturday. Damage is estimated at $400.
•Kenneth Paul Langworthy. 16, of 5512 East Beach Drive, Long Beach, was arrest
ed at 6 a.m. October 13 in the 1100 block of Caswell Beach Road and charged with
a probation violation. He was confined to Brunswick County jail on $5,000 bond.
Trial is October 26.
•A Gatlinburg, TN, woman October 12 reported someone removed a wallet from
the home she rented in the 400 block of Caswell Beach Road. She said the wallet was
taken October 7 or October 8. Wallet and contents were valued at $123.
Yaupon Beach
•James Camron Paxton, 40, of Long Beach was arrested October 4 and charged
with driving while impaired and no operator’s license. He refused examination by
Intoxilyzer 5000. He was confined to Brunswick County jail on $200 secured bond.
Trial is November 23.
•A Yaupon Beach resident October 5 reported someone known to him had stolen
two personal checks from his residence. The checks had been forged and cashed.
Investigation of the report Continues.
•A Yaupon Beach business owner October 5 reported someone had passed a check
at his place of business that had been drawn on a closed account. The issuer of the
check was contacted and made restitution to the business owner.
•A Bolivia man reported several power tools had been taken from the bed of his
truck while he worked at a Yaupon Beach residence. The truck*was parked in the road
right-of-way and was out of his view.
•A Yaupon Beach man October 6 reported he had been followed by a vehicle'on N.
C. 211. He said the vehicle’s occupants made obscene gestures and followed him to
his residence. When the complainant went inside, the driver of the car reached into
the complainant's car and removed the turn signal arm from the steering column.
Police have no suspects.
•Jonathan Ray Smith, 24, of Fayetteville was arrested October 9 and charged with
four counts of breaking into a coin-operated machine and one count of larceny. It was
reported he had broken into four video poker machines at a Yaupon Beach business
and had removed the money from inside. He was confined to Brunswick County jail
on $2,000 secured bond. Trial is November 4.
•A Long Beach resident October 10 reported her purse had been taken while she
was a patron of a Yaupon Beach tavern. Police have no suspects.
•A minor traffic accident was investigated in the 200 block of Country Club Drive
October 10. No injuries were sustained and only minor, damage was done. No
charges were filed.
•A Climax man reported a power washer had been stolen from the carport of his
Yaupon Beach vacation home the night of October 10. Police have no suspects.
*A Cornelius couple reported that, while they slept the night of October 11, some
one hatfopened the bedroom window of a rental home they occupied. Several per
sonal items were removed from the home. One of the victims awoke when he heard
window blinds being moved. A search of the area by several officers turned up some
of the stolen items. No suspects were located. .
•A 26-year-old Southport woman was cited for carrying a concealed weapon
Friday. Trial is November 24.
•Mark Shane Bishop, 34, of Long Beach was arrested Sunday and charged with lar
ceny and resisting a public officer. It is alleged he ran from an officer who was inves
tigating an attempted break-in at a Yaupon Beach business. Police allege Bishop also
removed items from a boat in the parking lot of a town business establishment. He
was granted custody release pending trial November 23.
Long Beach 3
•In the reporting period, officers issued one citation each for speeding, no opera
tor’s license and expired registration. -
•Robert Bruce McDonald, 44, of 105 NE 6th Street was arrested at 7:49 p.m.
October 14 ana charged with driving while impaired, driving after revocation, carry
ing an open container after drinking, possession of marijuana, no registration plate
and no insurance. His vehicle was stopped on South Middleton Street at Dolphin
Drive. He was confined to Brunswick County jail on $1,000 bond. Trial is November
19.
•John Dana Stegall, 29, of 5510 Calhoun Drive, Boiling Spring Lakes, was arrest
ed October 11 and charged with two counts of second-degree sexual offense, two
counts of sex offense in a parental role and two counts of taking indecent liberties
with a child. Warrants for his arrest were secured upon a department investigation of
a reported child molestation. He was confined to Brunswick County jail on $150,000
bond. First appearance before the District Court was made October 13.
•David Scott Roof, 17, and Timothy Wayne Roof, 19, both of 104 SE 42nd Street,
were arrested October 13. The two were charged with one count each of breaking and
entering an automobile, larceny and possession of stolen goods. The two were arrest
ed and released from Brunswick County jail to their parents’ custody.
•Linda Lyons Walker, 49, of 107 NE 52nd Street was arrested at 11:48 p.m. Friday
and charged with driving while impaired and driving left of center. Her vehicle was
stopped at her residence after an officer observed it driven left of center. She was
released from Brunswick County jail on a written promise to appear at trial
November 2.
•Shannon Ryan Springsteen, 27, of 103 NE 3rd Street was arrested at 2:50 a.m.
Sunday and charged with driving while impaired, possession of marijuana and pos
session of drug paraphernalia. Her vehicle was stopped on East Oak Island Drive at
NE 35th Street when an officer observed it run off the right side of the roadway and
swerve excessively. Blood-alcohol content measured .13 by Intoxilyzer. Trial is
November 19.
•Dennis Leon Wheeler, 56, of 125 NE 25th Street was aiTested at 7:02 p.m. Sunday
and charged with being intoxicated and disruptive and resisting arrest. His arrest
came after he allegedly engaged in a dispute at a NE 30th Street home. Trial is
November 19.
•Five larcenies were reported in the period. Someone took a $150 fishing pole and
reel from the front porch of a home in the 5200 block of East Oak Island Drive on
Friday. Someone took $127 in cash and coin from a purse at a home on NE 45th
Street Saturday. Someone took $25 cash from a second home in the 100 block of NE
45th Street Friday night or Saturday, it was reported Sunday. Someone took $300
worth of fishing equipment from a cart on the Long Beach Pier late Saturday or early
Sunday, it was reported Sunday. Someone took $570 worth of hand tools from a
home in the 100 block of NE 47th Street late Thursday or early Friday, it was report
ed Friday.
•Someone broke the window and opened the door of a camper at Long Beach
Campground sometime after August 26, it was reported October 11. An estimated
$100 damage was done to the camper.
•Someone used a pry tool to force open the back door of a home in the 200 block

Pets of the week
A female shepherd mix with a medium black and brown coat is available
for adoption at the Brunswick County Animal Services Center. She is about
a year old and loves attention. The adoption fee of $65 includes a physical
exam, spaying, a rabies vaccination and preventive vaccinations at a reduced
rate.
A female adult cat with a short black and white coat also is up for adop
tion. She is around nine months old and is willing to adopt a new family. The
adoption fee of $55 includes a physical exam, feline leukemia and FIV tests,
spaying, a rabies vaccination and preventive vaccinations at a reduced rate.
The Brunswick County Animal Services Center is open Monday through
Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 3 p.m.; Sunday, 1 to 3 p.m. For
