Welch of High Point who has been at the bedside of her sister, Mrs. Dr. Ferree for a week returned to her home Tuesday. Morris-Scarboro-Moffitt Co's delivery here took fight in front of their store Wednesday morn ing and practically wrecked their delivery wagon. All the town Sunday schools are preparing to observe Easter Sundav in an appropriate man ner. The church choirs are pre paring special Easter music. Mr. Will Lewis, died at Mt. Gilead Monday and was brought here Tuesday on the 11 o'clock train and taken to Concord ceme tery for burial. Mr. Lewis was 44 years old and unmarried. The Ashboro Telephone Co. have moved their central office to their new quarters on Depot St. The cables are all up now and the phones will be connected with centrals within a few days. The labor situation of High Point continues about the same. The men belonging to the unions are still idle and the manufact ures contend they can run with out them, but it is likely the trou ble will be adjusted soon and all will return to work. The town commissioners did well m passing an ordinance to fine the railroads for blocking the crossings for ten minutes or more, but they should have gone a little further and required the railroad to move their scales from their present location. It is a great annoyance to those who want to cross the railroad to have to wait till a whole train is weigh ed. What might have been a ser ious runaway occurred on Acad emy st. Saturday morning when the boys were returning some tables they had used in serving refreshments at the entertain ment Friday night. Just after leaving the academy going east the pony driven by Alex Worth took fright and dashed down the street, and finally upset the vehicle, precipitating Chas. Kep hart to the ground, bruising him considerably. Fortunately no serious damage was done. Our city "dads" held a meet ing Thursday night in which a number of important measures were passed. Hereafter all who keep a aog withm the corporate limits of Ashboro will be taxed one dollar and female dogs dou ble that amount. If any railroad crossing within the corporate limits is blocked by a train for ten minutes at any one time, the railroad company is liable to a fine of three dollars for each offense. The entertainment given at the Academy Friday night was well enjoyed and the boys realiz ed a nice sum for the ball team. The Nightingale Band furnished the music. Dr. S. A. Henley is remodeling the old Hoover residence which he recently purchased from Arm-field-Laughlin Realty Co. The building has been moved nearer Fayettville St. and when recon structed will be a beautiful home. Mrs A J Asbpcraft. of Mon roe visited the family of Mr. I Frank Burkhead recently, and from here she went to Randle man to visit relatives. Mrs. Ashecraft is a daughter of Mr. J. C. Bulla of Back Creek town ship. Rev. E. L. Siler, Pastor of the first Presbyterian Church of Hiffh Point, who was prevented ! by sickness from filling his last months appointment here, will preach in the Presbyterian church next Sunday morning and evening. Mrs. Laura Winningham who died at the home of her son in law C. W. Bain at Greensboro j Tuesday, was brought here yes terday and interred in the Meth odist Cemetery. Rev. N. R. Richardson condutced the burial ceremony. Mrs. Winningham formerly lived in Ashboro. The "Ramblers" were very "charmingly entertained Saturday afternoon by Miss Esther Auman at her home on Sunset Avenue. The program consisted of music both vocal and instrumental. Ice cream and cake in the colors purple and white were served. The souvenirs were violets tied with white ribbon. Married. At the home of Mr. Neal Cagle, Sunday Apr. 8th 1906, Miss Lor etta Gray to Mr. Ervin Cox. Returning to the home of the bride's parents Mr. J. S. Gray, they found a few of their friends and a nice wedding supper await ing them. The attendants were Misses Mary Branson, Belle Gray sister of the bride, and Messrs. Frank Davison and Claud L uck. The bride wore a jrown of white. She is one of the popular young ladles of tms community ana has many friends here. The groom is a prosperous and industrious young man and the many friends of both these young people ex tend congratulations and best wishes for a happy and prosper ous journey on life's pathway. Fincher of Farmer and, Rev. Richardson of Ashboro, will be present. A large crowd is ex pected. Miss Kate Kearns is visiting in High Point. Miss Ida Lowe has just return ed from Chai-lotte, where she attended the State Sunday school convention. Prayer meeting is held at Science Hill every Saturday night. The waters are alive with fish. The boys have killed several large i ones with guns. Mr. Alfred Sheffield caught a large fish Monday in a trap weighing 11 pounds. The Holo Ministrel will give a free entertainment at Holly or Ridge School House Saturday night Apr, 14th. We think if Isaac Spencer had employed a lawyer he would have come out victorious in the case against him for retailing whiskey. We are an unconcerned party and would not question the just ice of the court in rendering a verdict according to the evidence; but in the case against Isaac Spencer, we consider he was the victim of a deep laid plot. Had all the facts been brought out we have no doubt the sentence wouM have been different. Allen went to Randleman, Wednesday of last week, and brought back with them a pair of fine horses. Mr. Joe Welborn and wife vis ited Mr. Dixon's of Grays Chapel last Sunday. Many thanks to the many Cor respondents who have been over running the columns of the Bul letin with good news. Since the writer has been absent, he has only one word to say, just keep on with the good work. Mr. H. P. Cox of Brown pass ed through this section Saturday on his way home. Quite a large number of fine colts are being raised here this spring. Farm labor commands a good price but hands are hai'd to ob tain. We will hold an election May 15th to vote on special tax levy to build .and mantain a graded school at Caraway. This place is one of the most beautiful spots in Randolph County for a school building, and there should be a house of best design erected on it. Let the voters turn out and vote for a good thing while we have the opportunity. The edu cation of our children is of first importance and we cannot afford to fall behind other sections in this line. Progress neighborhood is a beautiful clean country, and con tains many clean well kept farms and many clean, happy homes. Thrift and contentment is seen on every hand. If our people will vote for graded schools, we will show to the world that we are Progress (ive) in spirit as well as in name.
