The Randol pb Bulletin I'I'ELISHED EVERY THURSDAY PRICE ONE DOLLAR A YEAR U. S. HAYES, Editor and Publisher. Entered as second-class matter June 2nd 1905, at the post office at Ashe boro N. C, under the act of Congrass of March 3rd 1879. Bourke Cockran says the Dem ocratic party is not dead. Well, maybe it isn't. Another trip abroad would as sist Mr. Bryan in killing time be tween presidential conventions. The kidnapping and murder professions have received some rather severe jolts of late. Walter Wellman will try for the North Pole again. He will probably find it in the same old place. Eighteen Democrats voting for a tariff on iron ore was some thing in the way of ironical Dem ocracy, so to speak. -4 General confidence is ex pressed that the prosperity which is to follow the new tariff will be well worth waiting for. The Wisconsin Legislature has killed the bill designed to grant the suffrage to women. Those wicked, wicked men! If the women are to be re quired to remove their hats" in church, they have the right to demand, we think, that they be furnished two seats each. Carrie Nation she was chris tened Carry has bought a farm in Arkansas out of the sale of souvenir hatchets. Like Mr. Bryan, she turns her talents into cash. And just to think the weather man should send a deluge the very day Charlotte was celebrat ing the Mecklenburg Declaration and President Taft there, too! Charlotte should never speak to the weather man again, The "Greensboro Daily News," .jvuecessor to the Daily Industrial ws will scon beorin rjubhcaticn TU, , i . - x. .-71 1 news to republicans throughout the state who recognize the need of a strong daily newspaper to uphold republican principles. Mr. Mack's new magazine prints a picture of the late Thom as Jefferson on the front cover, the inference being that if Thomas were alive he would be an enthusiastic subscriber. The probabilities are he would at least prefer it to the Commoner, on the principle, "Of the lesser of two evils." By a single act, that of appoint ing a democrat to a Federal judgeship, President Taft has en deared himself to the democratic heart as no other republican pres ident has ever done. But yes terday the democratic press of the State had nothing but abuse and vilification for the president; today they slop over with blub ber and laudation for him. If you want to reach a man's heart " feed the brute" If you want to reach the democratic heart give 'em "pie". POLITICAL SPECULATION IN THE SEVENTH FOR NEXT YEAR. Under the above headlines the Rockingham Post says: Political speculation for next year has already begun. It is rumored that Congress man Page will be a candidate ' for reelection. It is also re ported that Hector McLean of Scotland county, Frank Armfield, Union county, Sen ator Foster Hankins of Dav idson county, and two solici tors, Robinson and Hammer, would like to have the job. Since the salary rose to $7, 500 a year it is a soft berth and a nice one. To which the Troy Montgomri an appends the following: S. E. Williams of Lexington, W. L. Parsons of Rocking ham, U. 'L. Spence of Car thage and J. R. Blair of Troy, are also spoken of as candi dates. Does this look like democrats are hungry for office? The nom inating convention is more than a year off and already ten avow ed canditates in the field and there may be others. An Expression of Thanks. Mr. Editor:-! wish to express through your paper my sincere thanks to the kind-hearted, sym pathetic, Christian-spirited girls and boys ladies and gentlemen, especially teachers and minister nf a ci-mAVA nnrl nil sections of Randolph county where I have recently been. It has been a source of great pleasure to min gle with such unselfish people. Such unbounded generosity and hospitality as well as such un precedented helpful kindness should be heralded everywhere. No one appreciates such more than the undersigned, since de prived of vision. The kind tone of the voice takes the place of the sympathetic countenance and "Come in" means much to the unfortunate. Why do the Randolph people expreeand feel so much? They are trained in the home and the schools, both day and Sunday, as well as having the gospel preach ed to them and practiced by this stiring, prosperous people. Randolph business men manufac turers, merchants, farmers, all classes join the Christian women and children in all kinds of church work. Such unity counts more than dollars and will tell on Future generations. In taking mv leave allow me to thank you thank all editors included for a pleasant and profitable stay among you. Stand by your schools and churches, with your influence and means, and may God ever prosper you in your business, as citzens of the county and state, and as members of the church. J. N.Garrett. May, 25 1909. Lived 152 Years. Wm. Parr England's ojdest man married the third time at 120, worked in the fields till 132 and lived 20 years longer. Peo ple should be youthful at 80. James Wright, of Spurlock, Ky., shows how to remain young. "I feel just like a 16-year-old boy," he writes, "after taking six bottles of Electric Bitters. For thirty years Kidney trouble made life a burden, but the first bottle of this wonderful medi cin& convinced me I had found the v greatetfc cure on earth." My daughter, these are the the proverb? of thy mother, married woman. To know men and their round' about ways; to perceive the differ ence between near-lovemaking anb a real proposal; to distinguish kisses the kiss of love from the kiss of long practice, and eu1 kisses from the kisses of graft. To give subtility to the debu tante, and to the wife a little "useful knowledge. mi 1 . 1 n ine understanding oi man is the beginning of an allowance; but the foolish shall earn their own living and dwell in a studio apartment. Go to the kitten' thou suffra gette; consider her ways and be wise, which, having no opinions, sleepeth upon a down pillow and gettetn tne cream on tne jug without working for it. For a husband is better than ! a government position, and more profitable than school teaching. Yea, if a man is the producer, snail not a woman be the con sumer? For this is reciprocity; and the more she consumeth the more she getteth. Then, let every wife be a walking abvertise ment of her husband's income, for a wife that looketh like ready money is as good as much credit. Heed my instruction, for love is a gilded cage to which any woman can entice the bird, but matrimony is the door which oniy a clever damsel snuttetn behind him. Therefore, mark the difference between the fool ish and the wise. For she that flirteth with the eye that will not behave shall cause havoc, but she that talketh too much shall give a man mal de mer. As a green persim men to the roof of the mouth, so is a waman that telleth a man her "patst." All the ways of a man are "just right" in the eyes of a wise damsel, b"fc the foolish wo man saith "I told you so." Lo, a proposal deferred maketh the heart sick. ; yet when it com ethit shall be so garbled that thou shalt not recognize it. But do not turn it down, for, as the whirlwind passeth so are old maids no more, yet the bachelor girl endurethforever. Then be up anb doing, for it is never to late to mend; but a time cometh when it shall be to late to marry, and ye shall cry unto your selves "My mother told me so!" Selah! Smashes All Records.
