The Randolph Bulletin LOCAL AND PERSONAL. G. T. Chandler of Broadway was in town Wednesday. John M. Neely spent Sunday at Jackson Springs. John W. Davis of Randleman was a business visitor in town Monday. Miss Laura Stimson of Ran dleman was the guest of friends here Saturday. A meetidg of Randolph county Farmers Union was held here Saturday and was well attended. Mrs. Oscar Russell returned Tuesday from a visit with rela tives and friends in Troy. Miss Laura Ross who has been visiting Miss Esther Ross for the last week returned to her home in Greensboro Tuesday. Sam E. Teague of Apalachicola Fla. visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Teague from Friday till Tuesday. Oscar Hancock of High Point was in town Monday on his re turn from a visit with relatives near Seagrove. Miss Clara Moffitt returned last week from an extended visit with relatives in Richmond and other Virginia points. . The new two-story brick build ing being erected on North St. by Cranford Bros, is ready for the roof. A. A. Spencer has moved his family into the residence on Sun set Ave. recently vacated by 0. R. Cox. A protracted meeting will com mence at Neighbors Grove next Sunday. Rev. W. E. Jones is the preacher in charge. The public is cordially invited. Rev. Chas. A. Wood returned to the city Friday from Taber nacle Township where he assist ed in a revival meeting at Pleas ant Grove M. E. Church. Quite a number from this city are attending the Randolph County Sunday School Conven tion in session at Trinity Lais week. G. N. Cox accompanied his niece Miss Rosa Atlred to Greensboro Saturday where she was placed in St. Leo's hospital for. medical treatment. On page 3 of this paper will be found the full text of the ad mirable platform adopted by the Republican convention held at Greensboro August 10th. Citizens of- Asheboro who maintain unsavory hog pens should abate the nuisance at once or the town constable will be compelled to enforce the law. Miss Grace Rhodes of Harris burg Va- has been visiting Miss Annie Moring for a few days and is now the guest of Miss Clara Moffitt at htr home on Sunset Avenue, A Farmers Union picnic and rally will be held at Marlboro school house Saturday, August 20th Speeches will be made by Dr. Alexander and Hon. A. C. Shuford. E. G. Morris has commenced the erection of a good residence. The residence now occupied by Mr. Morris has been moved to another lot and the new residence will be built on the old location. J. J. Harper ol Seagrove was a Dassenerer on the northbound train Tuesday, enroute to Reeds ville, W. Va. where he has ac cepted a position with the M & K. railroad company. Dr. W. H. Wakefield, of Char lotte, will be in Asheboro at Cen tral Hotel, Wednesday, Sept. 7th, one day only. His practice is limited to disease of the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat and fitting glasses. Thos. Farlow, who lives near Sophia, and who is one among the most successful wheat grow ers in the county told a repre sentative of the Bulletin Saturday that he expected to thresh 800 bushels or more this year. L. Ward 3rd prize, Mrs. M. W. Parish 4th prize, Miss Maggie Davis. Mrs. N. T. Hinshaw was a Randlemen visitor Tuesday. Miss Eugenia McCain is visit ing in Trinity this week. Miss Ethel Ferree is visiting Miss Ollie Trogdon of near Ran dleman this week. C. J. Cox and two daughters Misses Isley and Ruth are con fined to their rooms with fever. Miss Annie Moring has as her guest her classmate Miss Clyde Stancil of Tarboro. Ernest Propts of Plantersville Ala. is the guest of his aunt Mrs. Jean Rush. Grady Miller his parents, Mr. Miller. is here visiting and Mrs. J. G. Editor Mendenhall of the Ran dleman News was in the city be tween trains Friday. J. T. Wood and son Tom have gone to Baltimore, Md. on a busi ness trip. Cicero Davis and party of High Point were passengers on the Southbound train Tuesday enroute south for a fox hunt. H. B. Caldwell has returned from a business trip to Harris burg Pa. and other northern points. Prof 0. V. Woosley was in town Tuesday looking after some matters preparatory to opening the public school in September. Miss Nettie Glass who has been the guest of Miss Edna Laughlin for two weeks returned to her home in Concord Tuesday. Prof. G. F. Garner of Why Not spent a few hours in the city Tuesday. He was on his way to the Sunday School convention at Trinity. Will P. Moffitt of High Point who has been the guest of friends here and in the county for ten days returned home Tuesday. Mr. Moffitt holds a position with the High Point Enterprise. Miss Frances Marshall who at tended Teachers Institute here left Tuesday for Jamestown for a week's visit. While here Miss Marshall was the guest of Miss Maude Dickens. Calvin Cox, one of the most thorough farmers residing on Route 1 from Ramseur, sent the Bulletin office two of the largest Irish potatoes we have seen this year. After drying for a month, the largest weighs 22 oz. Through an oversight, the names of Viola Trogdon and Edith Pierce were omitted from the list of children who took part in the "Tom Thumb Wedding" two weeks ago and published in last weeks paper. Prof. E. N. Cox, a former res ident of this county, but who now resides at Buie's Creek Har nett county was a visitor in town Wednesday. Mr. Cox comes in the interest of the Modern Woodman ot America, lr con ditions are favorable he expects to organize a lodge there. Mrs. John T. Moffitt Entertains. A beautifully appointed recep tion was given by Mrs. John T. Moffitt last Friday night in honor of Miss Florence Hall of Phila delphia. The guests were wel comed by the hostess and Miss Clara Moffitt, who introduced them to Miss Hall. Music and progressive "forty two" were the entertainment of the evening and the highest score in the games was made by Miss Marion Moring. The prize, a kodak al bum, was presented by Miss Moring to the guest of honor. Delicious chocolate frappi and cake were served at the tables, after which piano solos were rendered by some of the young ladies present. The guests about thirty of the young people, en joyed a most delightful evening. Wanted at Once. Moffitt entertained at a delightful afternoon "forty two" party in honor of Miss Mamie Jackson, Miss Florence Hall and Mrs. H. E. Craven. The games were played progres sively and at the close of the playing dainty refreshments of peach ice cream and cake were served at the tables. The high est score was made by Mrs. H. E.
