THE END OF TUBERCULOSIS A Brief History of the Disease. Br. DR. MONTGOK li' LEA R Y. Consumption Is cnlled a disease as the masses because of its great prevalence among all class es of people. The first recorsVs f it date back to the ttfis cea tory before Christ, or abwatt i00 years ago. In 1805 Vllllmln. a French pfcy alclan. demonstrated beyossd doubt that tuberculosis couM be transmitted from one IndlvtdauU to another. Tbls was verified by other famous physician, mm tll the disease was generally branded as infections. Ia 18W5 the specific germ which csswe eonsnmptlon was discovered k the great German scientist K4s ert Kocb. Researches in recent yearn have demonstrated that con sumption, also many otberforaM f tuberculosis, may not only be prevented, but can In maaf eases be arrested and lastingly cured. Governments have take measures to suppress the scourge, but their efforts have not beea wholly successful owing ta the lassitude and carelessness ef the people. MUTTON ia at Its best in the fall, no it should have a prominent place ou tht Mil of fare for fall mid early winter. M-iuiy persons ob ject to mutton because of Its strong fiuvor. but If the fat Is carefully cut off It will be deprived of this. When you happen to be roastlns mutton. If yon place It upon a rack in the pan Instead of allowing It to cook In the fat It will not lie so strong. The outer skin should nlso be removed. A leg of mutton is roastet' v.t boiled: chops are broiled: the uf may be steamed, braised or boiled. The loin supplies cutlets or roast and the saddle is noasted. The neck may be used for stewing or making broth. Railed Loin. Ho! led loin of mutton is a doubly useful dish, ns it nuiy be served cold for the luncheon initio. The butcher should lie nsked to take the hones out of the meat. Then shape the mutton into a neat roll. It may lie stuffed if you choose with a plain bread stufllng. Secure tile roll with wooden skew ers or sew up. Predije with popper. salt and Hour. Place in the pan niul roast. ImstliiK with bacon or salt pork drippings and water. Mutton chops cooked In n casserole are delicious The chops must be first sauted In butter until they are a little browu. Then the casserole Is arranged with a layer of onion, carrot and tur nip tut In small slices and sauted un til light brown. The mutton chop is now placed on this with water or stock to almost cover the vegetables. The chop is laid on top of the vegetables, the dish cov ered tightly and allowed to cook until well done. Mutton Scallops. Mutton scallops may be added t the bill of fare. Take half a pound of cold mutton, one ounce of butter, half an ounce of flour, half a pint of gravy, sauce or stock, a tenspoonful of chop ped parsley, a teaspoonful of chopped onion, salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste. Well butter some scallop shells or ramlklns: chop the meat flue, melt half the butter in a small pan. stir In the flour, then add the stock or gravy Stir this over the fire until It bolls: season it carefully and add enough of it to the meat to moisten it well. Now stir In the chopped parsley and onion Place the mixture in the buttered hells, shake a good layer of browned crumbs over the top of each. Put the shells on a baking tin in the oven tilt the mixture is hot through, then serve. Women as Well as Ken are Bade Hiseraiils by Kidoej and Bladder Trouble. Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, discourages and leesensambition; beauty, vigor anu cneenui nesa soon disappear when the kidneys are out of order or dis eased. Kidney trouble ha become so prevalent that it is not uncom mon for a child to be born afflicted witt weak kidneys. If the child urinates too often, if the urine scalds the flesh, or if, when the child reaches an ige when it should be able to control the passage, it is yet afflicted with bed-wetting, depend upon it, the cause of the di ffi culty ia kidney trouble, and the first step should be towards the treatment of these important organs. This unpleasant trouble ia due to a diseased condition of the kidneys and bladder and not to a habit as most people suppose. Women as well as men are made miser able with kidney and bladder trouble, and both need the same great remedy. The mild and the immediate effect of Swamp-Root is soon realized. It is sold by druggists, in fifty cent and one-dollar size bottles. "I suffered com plete break down in health, some time ago," writes Mrs. A. McQlll, from this place. "I was very weak and could not do any work. I tried different remedies, but they did me no good. One day, I got a bottle of Cardul. It did me so much good, I was surprised, and took some more. Before I took Cardul, I had headache and backache, and sometimes I would cry for hours. Now I am over all that, and can do all kinds of housework. I think it is the greatest medicine on earth." In the past fifty years, thousands of ladies have written, like Mrs. McQlll, to tell of the benefit received from Cardul. Such testimony, from earnest women, surely indicates the great value of this tonic remedy, for diseases peculiar to women. Are you a sufferer? Yes? Cardul is the medicine you need.
