Hennk Van Loon's story of the Bible will soon be published and bids fair to be as interesting as his story f Mankind, which us one of the most popular world histories. Diplomatic rc:u ' - h; t been re stored between the UniLr.l States and Mexico through tl.e efforts of J. B. Payne and C. H. Warren. C. B. Sreager, of Texas, is expected to be the Mexican amrassiiior instead of Marion Butler, of North Carolina, who is an a.-pi:u t fc .he place. The Marine Cor " the United States have furnisi'! The low temperature of August 23 and: the day before and thereafter -4 id not continue and the accustomed weather of this time of year has pre aiTe since that date. The coldest lugust weather records show the twenty-third and twenty-fourth were She lowest known within the mem ry of man. A few weeks ago the Courier er roneously stated that the Junior Or der of American Mechanics had de cided upon Raleigh for the location of the orphanage which will be built in North Carolina this year. The ecision has not yet been made. The nnior Orders of Randolph county are lopiag to secure the orphanage. Let ttfte people of the county get together and offer a suitable location. Family reunions should be en- to agree and a new trial of the case ouraged for, the upkeep of family was derel by Judge White, presid- , 'ing. This is the second tune the case ties is a good thing in this day and , has trie4 generation when the tendency is to J In the trial the jury de separate, owing to modern conditions liberated for three hours. A fam ily reunion is a social occasion where members of the same family meet and talk and renew old friendships and make new ones. Carter's Weekly calls attention to trie phenomenal growth of the Wins ton Salem Journal and states that the Journal is rapidly coming to the front Its advertising patronage Is on the increase and its circulation is larger, and it might be added that not only the news service is excellent l the Journal but there is no better odited paper in the State. Its editor fi i Mr. Santford Martin, who although a yong-man is well equipped and well educated. Following this the showing made by the slate, according to State Superintendent of Public In struction report that 6,500 boys and giiU graduated from the high schools of North Carolina this year as against 1,500 four years ago. At the meeting of the City Minis ters' Association last Monday it was decided that "go to church Sun day" would be observed next Sunday. ' At this time the white ministers of the town will exchange pulpits and it is urged that every one in Asheboro co to some church and participate in Me services. A record will be taken a- each church of the number of peo n'e who attend. The Courier is in to, isely interested in recording a hundred per cent church attendance for the splendid town of Asheboro next Sunday. The news which comes from Yad kin county is distressing. Former Srr-iff of that county, A. R. Lackey, ! ! had domestic troubles and his family had run him off and he was living in a little pine slab cabin with a ground floor. He was a member of the grand jury two weeks ago and on Monday night when he went home he never came back and he was found dead sometime next day in his pine slab cabin with a shot gun so located as to leave the impression that he committed suicide. Examination of the wound shows it was impossible for him to commit suicide. His son it is alleged is a very bad man and was afraid that his father would tell what he knew on him before the grand jury and it is alleged that this son committed the crime to hush his father's mouth. Sheriff Lackey had another son several years ago who was sentenced to the chain gang for larceny. MISTRIAL IN GARRETT MURDER CASE In the case of R. O.
