Staraea, both, escaped convicts from the State Peaitentary at Ra lelh line Saturday aioming- were captured at Roanoke, Va Monday nii-ht Between Satnrday and Mon- d&y might the story of the two mens deeds ana movement u a long and exciting one. (X3.8tarting from Raleigh after es caping from the Institution to which both had been sentenced, their flight into this section of Virginia was one in which the automobile played an Important part . Stealing a truck a anon aisiance ouisiae 01 naieign uvey drove in . the direction of Durham, abandoning the truck on the road and stealing the car of M. D. Cline, of Durham, whom they approached at 2 o'clock Sunday morning, jumping on the running board, thrusting revolv ers In his side and compelling him to accompany them to Greensboro where they passed through the scene of the murder -of A.: W Kaplan, for which Wood was sentenced to 30 years in the penitentiary. Cline was taken .'from the machine after Greensboro had been passed, and left in a clump of, woods tied with his own belt He was robbed or the money he had on his person and a gold watch. The fugitives were next heard of at Schoblfield when the touring car in which the two were traveling rushed through that town at a terrific rate of speed. However, the muddy con dition of the car obscured the license and the watching officers were unable to outdistance it. I From Winston-Salem, where the fugitives picked up Mrs. Wood and her five-year-old daughter, Mary Elizabeth, the automobile traveled all night in the direction of Roanoke, ar riving about 4 o'clock Monday after noon. . The muddy car attracted the at tention of a policeman on the out skirts of the city, and he notihed po lice headquarters. Seeing that they were followed, Wood,'' who was at the wheel of the car suddenly turned it Into a field and the two fugitives darted off. Two hours later the .two men were captured in the woods and taken without much resistance to the police station and will soon be sent to Raleigh again. 1 trVdi "BON AIR" is located near the Country Club mi Gar- ..... land lake, near your High Schools and Churches.
