These astounding Oriental human oddities are not freaks; they are proud mem bers of a proud race, set apart from the teeming hordes of Far East Burma by their high station as rul ers and by the visual sign of that exalted rank—their copper encircled necks, stretched to unbelievable leng ths by rings superimposed constantly from birth to maturity. Since the Ringling Bros, and Barnum & Bailey Combined Circus recently began dis playing them—and they appear in the main performance hundreds of thousands of people will have gated upon them in awe before the gala Golden Jubilee tour is ended. Outstanding among the Jubilee features is the mighty spectacle, The Durbar, gorgeous, dazzling, foe-jewel ed reproduction of India’s’great coro nation ceremonial at Delhi, where thousands of potentates with their royal elephants and huge oriental retinues parade for the pleasure of the new ruler of Great Britian and India their vast wealth as symboliz ed by gem-studded trappings on ele phants and horses, by their native forces and lavishly garbed house holds. Over 2,000 people and animals take part in The Durbar, and its back ground is opulent and bizarre with imported Hindu temples, tongas, car ved gold cans and royal howdahs. The Durbar is the proud achieve ment of the Ripgling Bros, and Bar num & Bailey Combined Circus on its Golden Jubilee tour, and it heads a list of features newly assembled that will compel the vast five-ring four stage program to be recalled with deep pleasure for a lifetime. Among them is .the Marcellos’ Fly ing Ballet Plastique from Paris; the great Vabanque in ‘his leap of death; the marvelous Con Colleana, return id from Us (recent European trium phs as the tumbling, forward somer saulting star of the tight wire; the incredible Alfredo Codona, world’s only triple mid-air somersaulting star to catch; the Wallendas and Gretonas, dome-high tight wire thrill ers; the Uyenos, .the Yacopis, the Danwills, the Rubio® and the Ben Hamids, leading unit of fifty in the quadruple somersaulting acrobatic displays; the great Rieffenach, Walt ers and Davenport bareback riding stars; Dorothy Herbert, sensational equestrienne; Luicita Leers, aerial gymnast*; A1 Powell, flying bow knot; Antoinette, only mid-air girl stair accomplishing a double-and-a half somersault to a catch; Hugo Zacchini, human projectile, in long er and more terrific flights from the cannon’s mouth; the Hugony sisters, acrobatic pimwbeels; Maximo, stellar comic of the slack wire, and scores of o the re equally notable. One hun dred of the best known clowns will make merry in the concourse off the world’s largest tent.. The great combined circus will ar rive on four long trains of 100 double-length steel railroad cars, bringing over 1,600 people, 50 ele phants, 1,009 menagerie animals and 700 horses.
