Colored Minister
.Visits Old Home
The Rev. T. B. McCain, a colored
preacher who lives at Southern
Pines, visited friends in Asheboro
Friday. This interesting colored
man, immaculate in his black suit
and white collar, is of the old
school with Chesterfieldian mann-»
ers of the old traditional South.
He was bom and reared four miles
from Asheboro, "on the waters of
Back Creek,” said he. This fam
ily of colored folk lived on the
plantation of the late Hugh Mc
Cain.
Firty-nine years this man serv
ed the African M. C. church as a
pastor, having regular charges.
“But,” he said, "retiring two or
three years ago from a regular
pastorate has not stopped my
preaching.” He goes out now do
ing supply work and missionary
work and is even busier than when
he was confined to one charge.
A great many white friends in
Asheboro are always glad to see
this visitor return to his native
county, spry for his age in a physi
cal way and most alert mentally.

Eagles Planning Bus Trip
To National Tournatn
The McCrary Eagles, winners of
the North Carolina semi-pro base
ball championship Thursday night
are already planning their trip to
Wichita, Kans.
While nothing of a definite na
ture had been decided upon at a
late hour last night, it is believed
the management will carry the’
team into the mid-west in motor
buses. This, it was pointed out,
will keep the players together and
avoid any dangers of traffic or au
tomobile trouble with a long
string of cars.
No definite date has been set for
leaving Asheboro but it is believed
the team will leave in time to have
at least one week to become ec
quainted with the Climatic condi
tions and baseball grounds.
Merchants and manufacturers
in the city were enthusiastic
the success of the Eagles. un
pointed out the great advertiai
value of having a team win a sta
trophy then enter a national ta
nament. "This opportunity",
of them said, “will bring Ashebo
