Field clocks are a novelty; They" are on white glass, the size of a target, and, mounted on a tripou, can De seen by the players at large at tennis or any others outdoor game on the lawn. THE ROMANCE OF LIFE. A clergyman at West Chester J Pa. , was so busy tying matrimonial ki ots one day that ho had to send one couple tc another minister to be married. Jlrs. L. M. Sherman (white) , of Great Falls. M. T.. secured a divorce from her hus- Jjank, Morgan Sherman (colored), the other day, and immediately afterward married her lawyer (white).' J An officer of an American war vessel fell in love with' a dusky maiden at Honolulu. The girl's father objected and a secret mar riage was the result' The officer is still with his ship and the bride is at ner home. A young lady of Bangor, Me., who had been Cbr bidden by a jealous lover to go to a . ?ai - i a .l"t i dance witn a iiv oi, ijhu iuh. jetuous suitor arrested and lodged in aKcfellJ while: she went to the dance with the other, fellow. A wedding took place' at St. Paul, Minn.. where the groomwas over six feet ' tall and the . bride a littleMiver two feet in height During . the ceremony the girl stood on a the groom's chair, her head just reaching to shoulder. . A rich Tforth Caroliniar ' put his 16-yearr old daughter in charge of s very good young man, a divinity student, who promised to see her safe, to boarding schooL The j reached the appointed place on time, but there went tak to the father a telegram saying that thev had stopped at :a Isvav station Ions etiuurh to be married. I Children's Success Jat School. Tho surroundings of a childi as yery per son with common sense knows, have so much to do with his success at school that when:the home, the neighborhood anjd the air are bad, it is only a further aggravation- of nature to compel him to study. This is J especially true among sensitive and intellectual children. If the school house is a rickety, nnpainted, uninviting affair, the pupil is inclined the samel way. If the teacher, Is shambling and the pupils ragged and unwashed, down goes the estimation of. the whol4 concern again in the eyes of the incoming little stranger. J What in the name of Civilization can a school teacher expect to make out of .a 10-year-old whose eyes have j opened in the bright sunlight which fails only upon the loafers of a back street in a great city? . The little fellow, in his walk to the school house, passes troops of dirty ' children who doht have to go to school at all, ibut play inthi gutters among the vile cur dogs that infest such neighborhoods. He sees bundles of rags sticking in the broken windows, hears brawl ing words among the bar room sots, gets whiffs of the vapors that rise from the sew ers cf i every corner. Compare him with the country child stepping out of a nice, quiet home to walk to school along a road where flowers stud the pathway and birds sing their spring songs in the trees that overhang. The lad is nature's handiwork as much as the V birds jind flowers and trees.--SchoorTeachei m .uxoutj-uemocrau Call and see the new additions to the stock no trouble to shokv sroods at a27tf.
