Alter one of the most exciting municipal contests this town has seen in several years, the ballot ing Mr.n lav seems to have relieved everybody of all the enlhusiasui that tacal campaigns are capable of inspiring. Every man in town with one or two exceptions, who commanded any influence whatever was up with the sun doing his best for the side he considered right and best. Good work was done on both sides, and the result was a big yote. Everything has quieted down now and polities are laid away to rest for sour; time. Last Saturday was the opening day for base bail in this section. Several days previous a mate! game had been arranged betwei n the Biyson City ai.d Cherokee teams-. ,uul Lv the time ?et for the contest ad arrived every one of on. am.itues enthusiasts had s t: or tugLly aroused public interest tha. uoihiug-would do but fur every body to go. Everybody went. Three nagon loals and several on horses players, umpires, scorers spectators and chcerers started out in ;the best of spirits. There w:.s noaody there to meet the boys, but that apj arently made little differ Mice, for a good dinner was soon served, and at 2:30 the game was called With Dr. Obei lander pitching on the Cherokee nin the teams skeined well matched, as the ?core up to and including the sixth inning clearly indicates; but in the sev enth, when the home club put Owl in the box. the visitors seemed to have no trouble in locating his balls and scored seven runs. From then to the end interest be gan to wane, and a little sprinkle of rain during the eighth almost cleared the field of spsctators. The one-sided turn ihegame had just taken on caused everybody to realize that almost all future earn ings would count for theyisitors, so all interest died. Here is the score by innings : Bry. City, 0 1 0 1 1 1 7 4 015 Cnerokee, 2 0 0. 1 1 3 3 1 011 Sehanandore made most runs. Prof. Potter umpired for the Cherokees and Ai;'nir Lipscombe for Brysou City. A return game was expected here to-morrow, but Dr. Cberlander has written, saying that his team will play Whittier on thac date.
