Editor Sylvan Valley ?sews: After an absence from your valuable paper for .some time I decided to come again. We have had several rain and hail storms recently, and the farmers are getting behind with their work. Tanbark has gone to $7.50 per cord, and the prospect is good for it to reach }^8.00. Competi tion is the life of any country. Messrs. Fisher and Zachary are going to make the tanneries pay for their bark, which v*^ill be good for the people. Our hustling merchant, W. C. Fisher, is lengthening out his store to give room for new goods that are arriving almost every day. The darkies are laying off a day or two counting their money and eating potted ham on account of recent rains. Jim Butler is up from Tryon on a visit. Jim is a good painter and used to teach school in this county. He is received with a welcome smile wherever he goes. He reports peaches getting I'ipe in Tryon. Mrs. L. M. Glazener has been very sick for the past few days, but is better at this writing. Hon. E. A. Aiken was in town last week. We guess he had been looking for an illicit distil lery, and wish he would get 'em all. The material has arrived for W. L. Carmichael’s new store in Toxaway and will soon be put in place, A. M.
